As a head coach, Leach is 3-17 in rivalry games.

Leach does NOT have that dawg in him. His teams lay down when their rivals show up.

quote:

Leach is now 0-2 against Ole Miss, but his troubles against in-state rivals has a long history. At Washington State, Leach’s teams won just one Apple Cup game against Washington — toppling the Huskies in 2012 before losing seven straight.

When Leach coached Texas Tech, his record against Texas was lopsided, too. The Longhorns won eight of the 10 matchups with the Red Raiders between 2000-09.

Overall, Leach has won three of the 20 in-state rivalry games he’s coached in.

Has Mike Leach ever beaten Ole Miss? I certainly haven't seen it.

Leach’s best team ever got its arse beat by Jevan Snead and Dexter McCluster back in 2009

Mike Wallace could not be stopped that day.

Yeah, I posted something similar earlier this season - he's lost nine straight going back to Wazzu, even when it appeared he had the better team coming in.

Dude just can't seem to put it together in the most important game of the year.

Although it doesn't have anything to do with Leach, Schtate's best team in its putrid football history got whipped by the Rebs and Bo Wallace (who literally had one leg due to injury) in 2014.

Is Texas really the biggest rival for Texas Tech? No shite, Texas wins most of those games. Similar situation at Washington State. UDub is a much better program.

Leach at Miss. State is the first time his teams biggest rival is a program on a similar level.

I don't think so.

no, it's not similar. Washington State undoubtedly views Washington as its biggest and sole rival.

Not in 2018. Wazzou had an outside shot at making the CFP and got destroyed at home.

Also, this overlooks his record vs A&M at while at Texas Tech. He has always owned the Aggies.

Why is Texas considered TT's rival and not Texas A&M? Leach has a good record against A&M.

OM vacated that win due to cheating.

Here is an article discussing who Tech's biggest rival is (written by a Tech website).

2003. I was at that game. BJ Simmons threw for 600 yards and Eli threw for over 400. It was a defensive coordinators nightmare

For most of his tenure at Wazzou they were pretty comparable. His teams still managed to shite the bed in that game.

Best example was 2015, when the Cougs were 8-3 with a decent shot at a NYD bowl, and UDub was only 5-6 and came in having lost 4 of their previous 6 games. They still blew Leach & Co out by 5 TDs.

Or 2018, when all WSU had to do was get by the 8-3 Huskies at home to get to the PAC12 CG with an outside shot at the CFP. Washington won by 13 in a snowstorm and went on to beat Utah for the championship and a Rose Bowl bid.

So yeah, Leach has a long history of falling short in his school's big instate rivalry. Will be interesting to see if the dynamic surrounding Ole Kiff has any bearing on the outcome.
