Football without the pirate would really suck, but world without pirate is sad unlivable place. The pirate must be saved at all cost.

That sounds correct. If he’s on the vent it’s very worrisome.

You know, I have followed Miss State boards and I’ve read local media hacks dog Leach all year about coughing, that he was coughing on purpose to avoid their questions. Really turns my stomach. Leach is a damn good guy.

Thank you for your continued medical diagnosis of Mike Leach as you peered at him through your binoculars at the Egg Bowl

I have lost enough friends that you tend to notice it more than when you have not seen it as much. I am not a vet but spent enough of my youth on a farm to tell animals in distress at a distance as I got older. As you get older and you improver your power of observation you just see.

Not saying I am 100%, just saying his condition looked like what I had seen before.

I tried to resist, but since this thread is already full of C19 speculations and discussions of his exercise habits, I’ll drop this here:

If you believe that most of your calories should come from grains and other carbohydrates, that seed oils are heart healthy and that meat is bad for you, that the visceral fat on your belly is from lack of exercise, and that you’ll be fine because of statins, blood thinners, or the new diabetes and weight loss drugs, then I encourage you to research alternative dietary theories like keto, carnivore, paleo, Atkins, etc. More than Covid vaccines or anything related to Covid, this is the lie American medicine unconscionably continues to push. Insulin is the culprit, and carbohydrates spike insulin. Eat fat. Food and Pharma are squeezing us from both ends, literally profiteering off disease and intervention.

stroke

Another possibility. I'm a little more skeptical of that one though. I don't know how Mississippi is set up so I can't speculate about their system but here in Alabama a major stroke is a scene flight (pick them up at the scene) if the local hospital isn't a stroke center. Same thing for a major trauma but again, it could have been something as simple as when the event first happened there wasn't a helo available.

Here at least, with stroke there's a massive push to get them to an appropriate facility first. Little known fact - EMTALA doesn't cover you if you're already at a hospital. That means the local facility has to find someone willing to accept you. Unlike if you present at their ER lobby or an ambulance brings you into their ER, they can and very often do say no to a patient already in a facility. In the case of a stroke, that means you might lose so much time you get outside the thrombolysis time window.

ETA: If Leach was out and about the last few days as has been posted you can just about scratch CHF off your list as the primary event. It's a chronic condition that will kill you deader than dead but acute exacerbation is pretty rare.

People had been speculating about his health all season here. Unfortunate being a college football coach takes up so much time he probably put off getting checked out until the season ended.

Tupelo is "better" for cardiac events than UMC, but who knows if tupelo was full or something (or if that status has changed over the last 12 months)

The Starkville Hospital (OCH) and Univ Med Center in Jackson are business partners. OCH sends their critical patients to Jackson even thought Tupelo is closer.

How so? Pitting edema around the ankles? You could see the pleural effusion with your Superman x-ray eyes?

A doctor on the State boards has speculated that the only reasons one would be airlifted to UMC is a stroke or major burns, but did not rule out a major cardiac event.

My dad had a heart attack years ago and was transported to Kings Daughters in Brookhaven to be stabilized. Then he was air lifted to Baptist in Jackson because Kings Daughters didn’t have a Cath lab to treat him so in my case the Dr is wrong

It's all speculation, but I think some type of heart issue is most likely. He has not been looking well lately.

Just have to hope for the best.

I know one of the local media guys would trash him mercilessly because he was late to weekly press conferences. Hell it was probably hard for him to talk so much without coughing. The reporter made fun of him and said he was probably out drinking. Was coughing on purpose to avoid his questions.

Makes me sick. So entitled these media types.

Hope he recovers but wasn't there some concern for him medically at the end of the season?

I went to urgent care where they did x-rays that showed fluid on my right lung. They diagnosed me with walking pneumonia, treated me with steroid shot, breathing treatments, etc. I got much better then almost exactly 2 weeks later started feeling it come on again.

Exactly, this is not as uncommon as you would think. Downside to the antibiotics and steroids are the opposite of what your body needs as they can drive your sugar through the roof.

Someone close to me went through about 6 months of misdiagnosis and 1/2 dozen ER trips (different doctors) before a retired doctor (with no tests or labs) correctly diagnosed. By then their blood sugar was regularly in the 400 to 500 range and their EF was around 12%. Excessive coughing and fluid retention were quite obvious by that time but the real giveaway was the grey / white pallor. You do not forget that once you have seen it.

UMC is the critical care hospital in Mississippi, they are both a teaching hospital and have a lot of equipment etc. my dad was scheduled to have one of first ballon cardiac surgeries there in 80s by his old friend, but died the week before from a massive CI as we were cleaning the boat
