That’s the way I viewed it as well when the new playoff system was announced. The only way it makes sense is if the games aren’t considered in the choosing process. It’s unfair to the participants.

SECCG had a good run. Time to end it & add a 9th conference game during the season to make up for the lost revenue.
We should skip 9 and go straight to 10. 9 means that half the conference will have 4 SEC home games and the other half will get 5. If we are paying players and paying these ridiculous ticket prices, I don't want to see SEC teams beat up on Mercer and UAPB. Give me 10 SEC games & 2 non-conference games.

I say now the way things currently are, whoever finishes first in the sec is the champ and on to the playoffs for those who get in.

I'm waiting for the first team to pull an NFL move and rest their starters for the game.

How can you have a Champion if you don't have a game to decide it?
With a league that cannot have a round robin schedule because of their size, you will have multiple teams with similar conference records. Either play a Championship game, or let some old farts vote on it.
Grow some hair and play the damn game, pussies.

The did this just last year.
This is like comparing apples to rocks.
1) 12 teams vs 4 teams
2) The top 2 teams in the SEC are now playing as opposed typically a top 4 team playing a team that isn't even in the top 10.

Seriously! Posters on this site are soft as shite and if they can’t handle playing in a conf championship game they have zero reason to be in the cfp if they’re that fragile.

He’d also be the biggest beneficiary of what he’s saying because he’s on the bubble.
Lane waxes poetic about the big picture all the time. He's really good at big picture questions because even if a rule or something benefits Ole Miss, he will still call it out. He has done so with the portal mayhem multiple times even though Ole Miss has arguably benefited from the portal/immediate eligibility more than anyone else.

Lane is spot on.
Few years ago we beat UGA in the SEC championship game.
However, during the game we had significant injuries that played a role in the National Championship.

I’m 100% that both teams should make the cfp from conference championship game because they’re the two best teams. The part I don’t like is the discussion to avoid it as the SEC should have a defined champion.

Having to play 4 top 12 teams in a row is going to be really hard for the SEC.
SECCG
QF
SF
CFPNCG
There are also teams that, in theory, could win their CCG and still not get an automatic bid and have to play an additional opening round bid.

It'd be cool if the 9th game would be a neutral site with a 50/50 split for all teams.

SEC CG.
Should be done away with.
Whoever wins the conference is the conference champion. Play 9 games instead of 8.

CBS' viewership for last year's SECCG equals about a half-season of CBS red hot 2024 Big 10 Games of the Week.
I'm no sports executive or anything executive, but 17 million viewers in a 3-4 hour window must equal an insane amount of money and revenue.

Would the CFP committee punish a team for skipping a championship game?

The only upside after beating a really good SEC team is to get a bye. But, I'd rather play at home vs a shite team from a shite conference.

I'm saying they were the best team in the country last year, ran the table in the regular season, lost by 3 in the SEC CG and got left out of the then 4 team playoff.
You are leaving off one very important aspect of the storyline:
... then going on to set the all-time NCAA record for biggest post-season beatdown in college football history, against the ACC champion, beating the previous record they set a year before in the national championship game vs TCU.

A 10-2 SEC team who loses in Atlanta isn't getting left out.

Lane Kiffin said that or Brian Kelly?
Lane takes every risk and Kelly takes none.
Lane called a really good game decision wise when Ole Miss beat Georgia. If he continues to take FG's instead of wasting points away he might do well.
I usually give him a ton of shite for bad decisions, but I don't remember him making any in that game.
