in this abortion of a playoff system.
Would much rather see Ole Miss vs LSU from Oxford in a Play-In than watch either one of those teams play….and everyone on here would too

It’s a tough pill to swallow. Let the conference winners in the playoff but like hell they should get all the 1st round byes. Pretty easy fix.

Based on me reading hundreds of tweets and articles from insiders and reading between the lines, I think the committee will make the following change:
Go to 14 teams, adding two more first round campus games and ensuring that only top two teams (usually B1G and SEC champs) get byes. Then everyone else is seeded as they should be, but conference champions are guaranteed home games.
This year would have looked like this:
Byes:
1. Oregon (B1G champ)
2. Georgia (SEC champ)
First Round On Campus Games:
14. Miami at 3. Texas
13. Alabama at 4. Penn State
12. SMU at 5. Notre Dame
11. Indiana at 6. Boise State
10. Tennessee at 7. Arizona State
9. Ohio State at 8. Clemson
Go to 14 teams, adding two more first round campus games and ensuring that only top two teams (usually B1G and SEC champs) get byes. Then everyone else is seeded as they should be, but conference champions are guaranteed home games.

That's why it's 14. Doesn't add anymore games, just adds two more first round games. Only 2 byes instead of 4. Same number of games required for championship.
The issue we are going to see is not with the playoff, but the big 16 team conference alignment allows a team like Indiana to get lucky with scheduling and sneak in. There will be at least one team like this every year.
Indiana would not have finished in the top half of the SEC. Every 6-6 or better team in the SEC would have beaten them.
The solution is the same as it always has been. Go back to six major conferences and say goodbye to Texas, Texas A&M, Missouri, Oklahoma, Arkansas and South Carolina.

This 14 team idea looks correct to me
I think it will be the 3-3-2-2-1 model
And I think Sankey is pushing to try and get #3 vs. #4 in the SEC on conference championship weekend, so basically it will be a playoff game
This year it'd probably be a Tennessee vs. Alabama rematch for that guaranteed 3rd berth
The loser maybe makes it as an At-Large playing on the road

I still think they have to consider strength of schedule. ACC and Bigten rigged their schedules to get best records possible. Meanwhile the sec has Georgia playing Texas, Tennessee Ole Miss and Alabama. Alabama has Georgia, Tennessee, LSU and Auburn(yes I know they were bad the last few years but we know they won’t stay bad forever) LsU had Bama and Ole Miss. South Carolina nobody saw them coming on like they did but add them as well. We will see if they sustain this rise but for now they played really good football.

See my solution above. Go back to traditional college football.
Pac-10, Southwest, Big Ten, ACC, Big 8 and SEC. If it takes accepting Arkansas and South Carolina into the real SEC to make it happen, we could negotiate. But no Texas and Oklahoma belong in the SWC and Missouri belongs in the Big 8.

Expanding to 14 to get the desired result will only change the programs whining about not getting in, that's all.

But I give each conference a certain number of autobids, than we are looking at STANDINGS and less concerned about RANKINGS
Alabama was next in line...South Carolina had no business in a playoff when they're losing H2H against conference foes ahead of them

Fans can lament all they want. The G5 bid is going to be there. Boise State would curbstomp Indiana.
The issue is the super conference setup. It allows for conferences to setup favorable schedules. Indiana played one decent team all year. Texas had a much favorable schedule in the SEC than any of the 9-3 teams. Arizona State got by without playing the better Big 12 teams.
16 teams are too big for football. It works for basketball because you have a 68 team championship.
