You get an easy home game then get to play the weakest conference champion.

Yes, that is why we let Georgia win in Atlanta.

Said this before pairings came out. The committee screwed this thing up deluxe.

It was obvious before the season even started

Yeah, I don’t mind an expanded playoff. I’d prefer it to meaningless bowl games where half the players opt out. The format is stupid though

Heard a lot of podcasters early in the season say this.

All these teams are pretty equal. Some are executing and others are not. UGa has backup QB and he doesn’t seem good enough. So I don’t think the draw means as much. It not like anybody is losing because they have played too many games. The early games seem to be helping the teams that won those. How do all 5 conf champions lose first game ( assuming Ga loses)

Yes, we've discussed this several times in particular in regards to Notre Dame (back in August/September) because they can't play in a conference championship game, and thus this will always be the highest seed they can be.
We also discussed that some teams might play 17 games this year during a season that lasts approximately 5 months, and unless extremely fortunate with injuries, how the team that started the season will almost certainly not be the same one standing at the end.
And it's this way because the whole "automatic qualifier" nonsense was added to capitulate to the Group of Five, former Pac-12, and other leagues that would never otherwise make it in based on actual on-the-field results and ranking metrics — it's a participation trophy.
Thus, in order for them to get their trophy, we still have to have championship games and AQs. While Notre Dame sits at home.

Extra game is an extra game no matter who it's against. Having nearly a month off isn't enough time for rust to set in but can do wonders healing up from the season pounding.
