In basketball, can NIL be based on stats?

Points, assists, rebounds, steals, blocks?
Is anyone paying out based on advanced stats like plus/minus?
Free throw %?
Three point %?
Defense?

IIRC, performance driven NIL ($X per TD, $Y if made All-SEC, $Z if named POTW) isn't allowed.
Of course, accomplishing all those things would increase the NIL value of that individual, so it would be used as an off-season negotiation point.

At some point, why not just have a pool of NIL per team?
Earn all of it.
Will there be 3 year contracts eventually?
The one season then transfer, rinse and repeat is making a mockery of college. Transferring is harder for regular students without losing credits.
Will colleges even have their athletes take classes in the future?

I don't see any of that happening without collective bargaining.
And let's be honest here, scholarship athletes were barely going to class prior to NIL and the transfer portal. There are the exceptions to that like Josh Dobbs and Greg McElroy, but athletes in revenue sports weren't there for the academics. With online classes being so prevalent now it has to be 100x worse. Throw in AI and can't even imagine how little the "student-athletes" are actually learning.
Even if you have to show up in person or proctor for a final or mid term, well their online stuff is already turned in so short absolutely bombing a final, they remain eligible.

Short answer no, NIL cannot be based on actually playing the game.

Sure but that would only work if all interested teams used those metrics. As a player you would go where those aren’t required… in other words… where the money is guaranteed.
Just the nature of NIL today, some teams will always be willing to not utilize the metrics and guarantee the money. The use of metrics in NIL never gets off the ground. Now if you are talking bonus based compensation on top of NIL salary… surprising if that isn’t already being done.

NIL needs to become performance based, with minimal base salary. Of course, it should be the same for every athlete and every team.

What a great way to build team chemistry. Pay players based on how many points they make!!
Haha

Seems like a pretty terrible idea where you'd just have a bunch of players playing for pointless stats/playing as individuals.

Performance based incentives and bonuses are pretty common in the NBA. And guys have definitely been traded or let go from their contracts for not performing. That's the way to go with it, if you're using any kind of stats/metrics (if that was allowed).
But you're correct in that if you do just straight up pay for X metric, it would get dicey.

How about plus/minus advanced metric?
