In all my years of watching SEC football

I have never seen a season like the one we are witnessing. I don’t know if it’s NIL, conference expansion, or what. Win/Loss records don’t matter. Teams being perennial powerhouses in years past don’t matter. Any team can win or lose on any given Saturday.
Make it make sense.

The teams in the conference just look at their names there’s to much pride and history to give up ! Every single team minus Vandy Miss st and maybe Kentucky think they are going to comepete for championship every year ….. and those 3 teams aren’t chop liver either !

It's awesome. This is how it should be.

Was it around 2015 when Bama was the only top team the SEC had?

Distractions have always been an issue.
That is magnified now by a large amount with NIL. It's something everyone is having to deal with. Talent doesn't disappear, but focus does. And we see the extreme changes in focus from week to week.
Some people will call it parody, but really it's just teams playing like shite one week and good the next.

NIL has spread talent around
Removing divisions has allowed teams to beat up on each other which then just leaves basically favorable schedules/who you don’t play to inflate your record
It’s an issue in other leagues too, the Big 10 and ACC just aren’t as deep

Even under the old division schedule, I'm not certain that Georgia wouldn't have two losses having played their normal East division schedule, based on how strong South Carolina and Vanderbilt are this year

think that it is a combination of NIL, the transfer portal, and the expanded league.
I think the transfer portal is the biggest reason though. Teams can’t develop depth. Second stringers transfer to somewhere they think they can start immediately instead of developing for a year or two before taking over a starter role as a 3rd or 4th year player. It has hurt all teams. And I believe it has changed how coaches have to coach. Coaches can’t use a hard arse drill instructor mentality, even if that is what a lot of players need. If they do, players will transfer. Plus all the top players are well paid now, and many are not nearly as hungry as before. We hear about players making “business decisions” on the field, and you can see it every weekend. The entire dynamic of college football has changed.

How do you not recall 2007? Your team won the NC that year.

I'm not finding it very funny personally.

All very true. It is a shame that it has become what it is. It’s bad for the programs and it’s bad for football

It’s honestly not worth watching anymore
It’s the NFL with less talent and players get to renegotiate their contract week to week.
