are all D line shifts illegal? legitimately, how do you coordinate a d line shift without verbal communication? is it only legal until X seconds before the playclock ends?

do we need Elon to install the telepathic shite on every player?

It's like the rules about baiting a dove field.

You can bait it if you actually plant sunflowers then mow them all down right before opening day to bring the birds in, but you can't just throw out a bunch of sunflower seeds.

It's because one of them yelled out "move."

How do you know this..I didn’t hear the ref say that. Their QB was complaining that we clapped..which we obviously didn’t

But the offense dictates the snap. They're allowed to bark all kind of fake snaps. I can halfway understand defensive line yelling hut but if one side is allowed to make in play adjustments they both should be able to.

One of the announcers said it, and when the refs were talking to Brian Kelly you could see BK say "move?" all perplexed and arguing against the call.

I'm not sure I agree with the penalty anyway, that's just what they said was the reason.

But they aren't. By rule, its a penalty. It may not be equitable, but its the rule.

I don't disagree. I'm just stating what was said on the broadcast.

Yeah they did say that's an update to the rule this year. I hate "subjective" penalties.

Its not subjective, though; if they hear it, they don't have the option to keep the flag in their pocket. Its not a discretion call like Unsportsmanlike Conduct.

Nah, it's subjective because there's no requirement for the defense to be completely silent. The ref has to make a decision on if the defense is calling plays or trying to mess with the offense. Even if the ref is wrong, the penalty still stands.

I'm not disagreeing with you. It's just a bad rule. Earlier in the game they barked a fake snap and tipped a corner blitz. They adjusted and picked him up no problem. Just seems like if they send a tight end in motion to stack a side the defense should be allowed to call a shift.

What is the real purpose of the rule?

so basically defensive line shifts are illegal outright then? i'm not sure how you coordinate one other than a verbal command. if the D line all moved at 5 seconds on the play clock silently would that be a penalty too?
