We'll finish 12-2 hopefully with another NY6 bowl game win and get ready for a title run in 2024. Lose some key players on defense but offensively we'll return a ton. Some defensive players might use their covid years to return as well.
We've won 6 Natties and 8 SEC titles in the last 15 years. Not holding up another trophy won't hurt out feelings...the real misery will come from simply losing to bowl cut and Drama from Fantasy Factory.

Still better than any program not named Georgia. Most of our best players will be back next season as well

It's hilarious that we've gone from "Saban is finished, over the hill, the decline is real" after a couple of games to "If Saban drops the championship game.....".
Nick Saban will be finished competing for championships whenever he decides he is finished competing for championships. Anyone who thinks otherwise is a fool.

Assuming we play hard and get after it and lose a tough one? Very excited about the next 2 years with the way the style has shifted, the returning players and the guys in the wings. We will probably be as high in the "returning production" metrics as we've ever been under Saban.
Offense - Milroe, 3/5 OL (Roberts/Proctor/Booker), Niblack, Bond, Prentice, Law, Hale return plus Jam/Haynes moving into feature roles at RB
Defense - Keenan, Oatis, Latham, Lawson, Campbell, Downs, D. Smith return with a bunch of talent guys who have gotten PT ready to get more (Koht, J. Smith, Alexander, Little, etc), plus freshmen who should be ready to make some noise (Keeley, Pierre, Ricks, Russaw).
Return a great core of leaders, both coordinators (hopefully) and have a lot of kids who have gotten experience this year ready to step in to the few open spots next year. But most importantly, re-discovering the discipline and mental toughness that the program had seemed to lose during the Golding/BoB years.
So, long story short, this season has already been a success long-term. We're basically playing catch up to Kirby and Georgia right now, and I'm not sure we're quite there yet. But this year was huge in terms of where the program was headed, and I'm pretty happy with it.

Saban has probably coached his greatest year this year. This team has improved so much from the beginning... Without star position players, both new coordinators, young defensive players.. the recruiting class...
Pretty awesome year, even if we don't win it.

Not a Gump, but I’d still say he orchestrated one of the most impressive mid-season turnarounds I’ve ever seen. That Bama team that played USF in the first half would have lost 8 games this year. Somehow Saban got it together and he’s looking likely to finish 11-2. That’s impressive.

Kirby has done the same thing this year. That team is light years better than the start of the season and peaking at the perfect time. Elite coaching makes more of a difference now than ever.
ETA: That’s also why I think system coaches struggle to get over the championship hurdles.

I'll think "at least we're not Mizzou" and "at least Saban isn't a pedo like Durkowitz"...

Kirby was dealing with a frick ton of injuries to start the season as well and still managed to win...

Any fanbase would be disappointed by a loss, but from the beginning of the season to now - just making the Championship game required a fantastic coaching job by the entire staff, and the improvement in the team is absolutely noticeable. I think Saban is getting / will get the maximum potential out of this team.

Don't understand the whole "overachieving" thing.
When you finish number 1 or number 2 in recruiting every single year, anything less than a CFP appearance should be underachieving.
This isn't the NFL, where a coach does the best he can with the players that the front office gives him. In college, the head coach is also the general manager.

Let me piggyback off of this. How many years in a row of missing the postseason would make the fanbase call for Saban's head?
Assume 10-11 wins each season.

Sounds about right and the same time frame that all the "bama fans" came out of the wood work.

If Alabama loses the sec championship game, we will have made 10 sec championship games in 17 years under Saban, winning 8 of them. Any rational fan would be pretty content with that.
