I understand why all these players sit out bowl games every year.

I get it and I really do understand. It makes no sense to me though unless a player is a top 10 or 15 pick in the draft. It makes no sense to me how a player can get a late first round grade or out of the first round altogether and then sit out a bowl game and not use every opportunity they have to try and move up some teams Draft board. You do not have just one chance on draft day to move up the draft board you have what 32 or 34 chances to move up because you can impress every team in the NFL. Players move up draft boards by playing football games not by winning the Draft Combine.

Or they could be resting injuries they sustained during the season or maybe trying to avoid a freak injury.

Many of these kids are beaten up.

Well if a player is hurt then ok that is understandable. I just do not buy this to keep from getting hurt theory though. I was born in the late 70’s. Back then a simple ACL injury probably meant a players career was over. Guys still managed to play in a bowl game and come out just fine. Very few injuries in todays game is career threatening. A offensive player would have better odds of scoring 20 tds in a bowl game than suffering a career threatening injury. Use every chance you have to move up and make you some money.

In theory, yeah. But 1 bowl game isn’t changing an NFL teams evaluation of that player. A projected round 2-3 running back isn’t moving up to round 1 because he ran for 200 yards in a bowl, but if he tests well at the combine he certainly could.
