All the time and you ignored the depth chart for some reason. ![](https://images.tigerdroppings.com/Images/Icons/Iconrotflmao.gif)

Muschamp did not inherit a ready made national champion by any stretch of the imagination. That is how I would define being “born on 3rd base” as a college coach.

The 2012 team makes the 4 team playoff. Which is better than anything any coach has done since Meyer. Which obviously ain’t saying much. They’ve all been shite though, it’ll be Napier ranked last after this season but he got left with Mullen’s abortion of a program. Which should be taken into account.

Go easy on Napier. He's the best they could get. It's only downhill from here. I would say 'the cellar awaits', but once you're perennially owned by KY, you ARE the cellar.
And what does that make Tennesse? The program who cannot ever beat the team that is the cellar?

But losing to Kentucky must've hurt.
Kentucky has been a far better program than Tennesse the last decade.

We finished #3 in the BCS in 2012.
Who knew that Will Muschamp posted on here?![](https://images.tigerdroppings.com/Images/Icons/IconLOL.gif)

Muschamp did his duty sinking y’all’s program. No idea what the other coaches were doing

Finished 9-10 after the beating by Louisville.
Not having to play Alabama after three straight embarrassments helped the record and ranking compared to previous years.
Talent was not close to the height of the Meyer era.

He actually had a nice turnaround in 2012 but Driskel did his Driskeling thing about 4 times that year against Georgia. Muschamp actually inherited a team with big issues the year before he took over. Never put together a good offense though to help the defense.

McElwain never impressed me and won in a very down SEC East. Who knows what happens if Grier doesn't get busted for SARMs.
Off the top of my head, I would say that Muschamp was the best recruiter and put top talent on the field. I do think McElwain was the best overall head coach, just wasn't ready for prime time.

The program was no worse when Mullen left than when McElwain left.
JMac had a great defensive roster he inherited and was a good enough offensive mind to play to it and make it work when Muschamp couldn't.
It's Mullen by far, IMO.

The problem was many of the top offensive recruits never panned out under Muschamp. A lot of fans said his mentality of 3 yards and a cloud of dust caused that. Like Mullen did with Franks until fate stepped in he stuck with Driskel too long I think also. Except for Trask and the 2020 season Muschamp and Mullen both won mostly with good defensive players not because the offense was lighting things up.

Muschamp couldn't get the right guys doing the right things. I thought Driskel at LaTech was great. Over 4000 yards passing and 27 TDs. Jacoby Brissett tore it up at NCS and will likely start next season for New England. Both are still playing in the NFL. Gameday was not Muschamps friend.

You can thank Geoff Collins. Sharkboy tanked (and faked death threats) as soon as GC left.

Top 5 NFL prospect? Yes. Top 5 college QB? Nope. Dude was just trying to get drafted. Was smart, actually.

1 - McElwein - 2 SECCG appearances. Won 10 games and 9 games his first two seasons. Fired at 3-4 in season 3.
2. Mullen - 1 SECCG appearance. Won 10, 11 and 8 games his first 3 seasons. Fired at 5-6 in season 4.
3 - Muschamp - 0 SECCG appearance. Won 7, 11 and 4 games his first 3 seasons. Fired at 6-5 in season 4.
4 - Napier - 0 SECCG appearances. 6-7 and 5-7 his first two seasons. .
McElwain followed Meyer and had a weak East is the only reason those stats exist.
