I know. I was joking. We don't really have a ghetto, unless you count the cul de sac of Betty Jo Drive.

when in athens you must hit up weaver d's. greatest soul food i have ever eaten.

No doubt D's is great, but Peaches Fine Foods>Weaver D's. It used to only open from 11 AM to 3 PM on Mon-Fri, not sure if it's still that way.

As far as BBQ goes, Fresh Air and Jot 'Em Down aren't bad. Granted, the best BBQ is Georgia is from Old South in Smyrna.

For Pizza, Transmetropolitan is better than pretty much anywhere in Athens.

Choo Choo has the best food after 3 AM; it's express hibachi. Get the yellow sauce.

Allen's Restaurant was hands down the best burger in Georgia before it closed in 2003. Heard they reopened but I haven't been there since, so I'm not sure.

*disclaimer, I haven't been back to Athens since the spring of 2007, so things might have changed.

Any Bama folks remember Papa's College Custard? I just about had an emotional breakdown in the parking the lot the first time I figured it out it was closed for good... I didn't even get to say goodbye. The fries were from heaven.

Also, I don't think I've seen Tut's mentioned for Tuscaloosa which is not cool. The Chicken Parm sandwich is almost as good as sex, and the Meatball Parm, and Steak And Cheese are mindblowing too. I've been in that place 53,456 times and never tried the pizza.

Kozy's was hard to find. I slayed some pussy there one night but we got lost as frick trying to get back to campus after a bunch of vino.

There was a rib place that posted up in JD's on sundays that was on par with the best ribs I've ever had. Can't remember the name but I lived directly behind JD's and sundays were devoted to bonging out hard and settling into a food coma or "Itis" as we referred to it in time for the Saints to play.

Coop de Ville, I miss it terribly. You wouldn't get your food for like 2 hours, and it'd be soggy as hell, but it was great at about 3AM.

Is that the same as the one in Hattiesburg? I always call in an order there when I'm visiting friends. Chicken alfredo sandwich with extra cheese and alfredo on the side. Pretty righteous after a day of drinking.

Yea I loved that sandwich. They had really good parmesan peppercorn wings too.

Yep. Its great. I just forget about it. Its way down on the Tuscaloosa-looking side of town.

I spend enough time in Fayetteville to know there's not a hell of a lot of difference. Tuscaloosa is just bigger and has an eyesore west of Downtown and campus.

I just thought of another gem, depending on how you look at it. Richey's Restaurant. I worked there for part of my college days because it closes early most nights. It's kind of a country steak house. The owner tried to make it nice a long time ago and hasn't updated so it has old, ugly decor and there's nothing pretty about the dishes. But it has a bad arse salad bar with crab meat and shite. Get the large filet and use the Chatteau sauce that comes with it. Best steak in Starkville. You can request extra seasoning, butter, mushrooms, and whatever else. A lot of people aren't aware of that. Better than the Veranda, Cappe's, Harvey's, etc if you are just looking for a good steak. If memory serves me correctly and the prices haven't changed(which they probably have) it was 23.95 with salad and a side. Ask them if they have any bread that is a little undercooked.

It was on McFarland between where University goes over it and 15th street.

It's a half moon bbq or something like that now. I tried the bbq once and it was shite.

RIP Papa's College Custard.

There was a place in Tuscaloosa that had a neon sign - something like a pig jumping into a BBQ pit and then the pig has angel wings going to heaven. What's the name of that place and is it still there?
