Think it worked out. #1 or 2 pick. Brought UGA back to respectability.

Never understood why UGA wasn't a baseball powerhouse.
No real institutional commitment. For whatever reason but the program is an afterthought for the most part. There is a sizeable contingent of passionate fans, or were when I lived in the Athens area, but a good portion of them are local alumni who make a nice living but do not have millions to donate and do not have a lot of influence on decision making in the AD....and if they do have some money to donate chances are good they'd prefer it go to football. From 96 -2006 I went to a lot of games in Athens....great atmosphere and a good way to wile away a few hours, but it was always just that for the most part, not a situation where every pitch is a life or death situation like every snap is in football. Georgia as a state is baseball rich, as is the rest of the south, but Atlanta being a regional city means a good portion of people in the state are from somewhere else and their loyalties lie elsewhere. This impacts football at UGA also, or did before Smart arrived.

Both programs have below average facilities compared to the rest of the conference but that is changing.
Foley has potential. I am not sure the Stegasaurus does....
UGA languished in football for years because the money came rolling in while the product on the field was usually slightly above average. It was "good enough". Mark Richt managed to change that immensely and Smart has changed it that much more again. The money is REALLY rolling in now..,baseball and basketball are going to enjoy a lot of that. UGA is in a enviable position to recruit college athletes....with some true institutional commitment there is no reason for UGA not to be competitive at a high level in every sport.
