If UF and UT play a home and home, I have a question:

If Texas players did the gator chomp like the rest of the sec does and the Florida players did the horns down, would they BOTH get penalized?

Seems to me that UF isn’t as sensitive about the chomp and won’t beg for a penalty.

Note: please only answer if you have won your division in the sec. it limits the number of try-hards that will try to shat this thread up.

Winners of sec div include:

Uga
UF
Tenn
Usc
MSU
Mizz
Ole miss*
Lsu
Aub
Ala
Ark

Depends on the conference that is reffing the game.

The only celebrations I can think off in the SEC that get penalized 100% is the throat slash, and I am not even offended by that, the Ole Miss dog peeing one and interesting celebration, I wouldn’t of penalized that, can’t remember if it was, shoe throwing get penalized, I could be wrong but we seemed to loosen up letting players spiking the ball, which I never understood why that was bad before

But does this really matter outside the Big 12? If a big 12 and sec team play, wouldn’t they need refs from a different conference? I feel only Big 12 refs would actually enforce that rule.

Lol, yeah it was. Caused the XP to be backed up and the kicker missed the try resulting in a State win.

Both the gator chomp and the horns up (not down) should be punishable by amputation

Is it supposed to be penalized? I know Spiller did it at the game, and no one threw a flag

Not too much, though.

The excluded have generally stayed in their lane.

Discipline is increasing, here ever’day.

Gurley got in trouble for the chomp/neck slash combo (duh), but Bellamy throwing down the chomp running through the end zone post JR Reed's fumble return in 2017 is the right level of chomping.

Here is my opinion on it:

1) If the player is taunting another player, and getting in their face, they should be penalized whether it is Horns Down, Gator Chomping, throat slashing, or something else. I actually think it would be better if a little taunting was allowed, but that would be a big gray area and would cause issues.

2) If the player is making a gesture of any kind to his teammates, or to the fans, I don’t see the problem at all. Let the fans and players have a little fun. Poke the bear.. just don’t get in another players face when you it.

On that note, it’s along the same lines as the stupid TD celebration rule.. If it is taunting or show boating, it is a penalty. I don’t agree with this rule either, but that is the college game.

I think it would be awesome to allow the players to do an end zone dance or celebration. Or allowing them to high step into the end zone..

At the end of the day, the NCAA doesn’t want kids to taunt the other team.. Wish it was different but that’s just the way it is.. Horns Down doesn’t bother me at all..

a penalty in any case

This is what my question addresses. And 124 out of 125 teams aren’t allowed to do it. Slightly weird.

it shouldn’t. But the fact that there is media air speaking about it is slightly different embarrassing.

Gator chomp. Fine
Horns down, the big 12 made a statement about it.

We get penalized all the time for the chomp but other teams who do it never get penalized. Someone said they have before but I can't recall it. It doesn't bother me when other teams do it, but either call it on both or neither.

Also sometimes players celebrate early and it causes them to jinx their own team. This is referred to as premature echompulation and is very embarrassing for the guilty party.

Tennessee has been know to do this.

nice.

Also, this is diametric opposites because Texas is allowed to horns up but gators can’t chomp.

This is a huge disparity.
