"From the outside looking in you can't understand it, and from the inside looking out you can't explain it"
Phrase often used to describe the difficulty outsiders have understanding the SEC culture on shakers.

Because it is gay for a man to shake a frisking "Pom Pom" and to call them "shakers" is more gay!

There is really nothing more stifling than a man who is scared to shake a shaker for fear of looking gay. It's the equivalent of a man who thinks it's gay to have sex doggie style.

You have a drink in one hand, a shaker in the other, and you make noise by screaming. But seriously, when a stadium with 100k does it, it looks pretty cool.

No, what's gay is asking/telling a group of 18-21 year old men to suck your "tiger" dick. Sounds like a pretty homosexual request if you ask me

I agree with this.

I love the SEC but never have quite understood the pom poms. They do not make noise! Do not get it.
i don't get it either. LSU fans don't particiipate in the pom pom broha. of course, LSU fans are unique; they have different types of brohas.

Poms are gay. I don't understand it either. Florida doesn't do it either. I'm sure it was happened at some point in the past, but it isn't part of our culture.

I have to agree. Since I spent the majority of my time in the "depressed box" I never carried a "shaker"
Obviously, they would have kicked me out. And is that place like a ghost town now with all the dead papers? Or do they let bloggers in now?
Anyway, haven't been to a game since I split, but that was the first thing I noticed when I watched the LSU-Bama game - all the men for both teams with shakers now. It's like it's almost everybody.
Sorry, but I'm never going to ever carry or wave a shaker. I guess I don't have anything against it, but I also find it sort of odd. It does seem that every year more men go shaker.

They most certainly did in the 80s and early 90s.
