I believe all (or at least most) coaches who have accomplished the following 2 relatively rare feats all have made the national championship game:

1) Been at their school for 10+ years
2) lost to a 13 seed or worse in NCAAT

Here are a few names that accomplished the above at their school (didn’t have time to research everyone, so let me know ones I’m missing):
Coach K
Bill Self
Calipari (Kentucky…obviously)
Matt Painter
Tony Bennett
Bobby Knight
Tom Izzo

Of those, only Painter doesn’t have a natty as he lost to UConn in it last year (in front of a lot of arrogant Purdue fans).

Pretty sure Bob Knight at IU in the mid 80’s lost to a 14 or 15 seed (Cleveland State?). Within two years or so he won his third NC.

ETA: he started at IU in the early 70’s.

Chex, you do realize that this thread was comparing your coach to HOF coaches, right? You need to learn what little brother posts look like…yours was a great example.

Big brother doesn’t have to avoid posting about other coach’s accomplishments like Jang attacked a fellow AU poster for doing. Pearl has accomplished more than anyone ever has at AU…good for him

Good catch, OP updated…he was before my time so there are almost certainly some older guys that would be on the list. Back then, you didn’t fire coaches as quickly as you do these days so I bet there could be one that accomplished both but never made the NC game. Surely Pearl isn’t going to be the first. (I didn’t caveat at power 5/6 school as I think it would have been really rare for a non-power conference school to get a top 4 seed)

You have six pages of posts in 24 hours with 80% being about Bama. You’re reverse melting and you don’t know it.

I'm not a fan of his tactics but we have had a year of "Yale" from the gumps. You earned those six pages.

Problem is, he was too dense to realize that this thread was essentially the opposite of “Yale.” It was indicative that if you are good enough for long enough, you eventually are likely to have an utter embarrassment in NCAAT of losing to a 13+ seed (Mark Few hasn’t, Sampson hasn’t at UH but know he had several early exits at OK, not sure about Donovan at FL or some of the other longer tenured coaches in recent memory)

Problem is, you are too dense to realize that most people on this forum don’t care to waste their time reading a typical low IQ post from you.

So, just because you happen to compliment your daddy for a change doesn’t mean that many people here will even notice because they usually just gloss over your typically meaningless crap posts.

Have a nice melt.

I'm surprised Jerry Tarkainian or Al McGuire isn't on that list. That's a pretty select group if Pearl wins these next two games he definitely the Goat in Auburn basketball history. Should be in the Alabama sports HOF as well.
