Although the NCAA Tournament champion was crowned in the Florida Gators, the action in college basketball is far from finished.
The college basketball transfer portal officially opened on March 24 and will not close until April 22. According to a report by Front Office Sports, over 2,000 NCAA Division I men's basketball players have entered their names into the portal, which equates to about 35% of all players.
While this has impacted teams differently across the country, few teams have felt it more than the Baylor Bears. Following the decision by starting center Josh Ojianwuna to enter his name into the portal, the Bears will not have a single returning player from the 2024-25 roster, as revealed by 247Sports' Foster Nicholas.
"Nine Baylor Bears hit the transfer portal. Four exhausted their eligibility," wrote Nicholas. "One is going pro. None stayed."

Although they weren't atop the Big 12 this season by any means, Baylor still had themselves a talented roster. Headlined by VJ Edgecombe (NBA), who was named Freshman of the Year, the Bears had multiple all-conference performers. Norchad Omier (graduated) was named first-team All-Big 12, Edgecombe was named second-team All-Big 12 in addition to his other honors and Robert Wright III (BYU) was honorable mention.

This Bears squad also made the NCAA Tournament as a No. 9 seed, falling to the No. 1 seed Duke Blue Devils in the second round.
Although having zero returners is less than ideal, coach Scott Drew is no stranger to loading up on talent. The Bears' 2025 recruiting class has just one member, five-star Tounde Yessoufou, who is complimented by the five-man No. 13 transfer portal class in the country.
With the Bears currently at six players for next year, there is clearly some more work to be done in both the portal or on the recruiting trail if possible.

We had a model that worked perfectly but just couldn't leave well enough alone.
Now everything is fricked.

Honestly, Auburn’s roster isn’t far behind. If Pettiford comes back and doesn’t go in the NBA, he’ll be the only returning player. 9 senior’s out of here, CBM not returning, Jahki Howard in the portal. That’s pretty much the whole team.

A semi-pro league would be more organized and wouldn’t have over a 1/3 of the players changing teams. I don’t know what current college sports is other than a mess.

And Baylor is a top program with one of the best coaches in the country. Crazy times.

Damn.
35% is an insane number.
College sports are falling fast.

Par for the course these days. Programs with money and decent coaching will recover quickly.

Yes, I probably should have cooked the wings a little longer and made them crispier. That’s what cost us the Florida game.
