re: Auburn fans what was it like going undefeated in 1993 but on probation?

Auburn has never in its history had to forfeit any football or basketball games while UAT has had to forfeit several games in both sports. Oh and congrats for being the last college football factory in America. The world laughs at you and your false pride.

The iron bowl webcast on the huge screen held up by cranes (is that correct? it's been awhile) above BDS was a pretty odd experience as well. Only about 1/3 of the stadium could see the screen, the feed was pretty poor and the sun was right in your face and there were as many Aub fans there as Ala fans watching. Just a weird day and we lost...

There was no NC game in 1993. Champions were voted on.
That's not true. The 1992 season was the inaugural year of the Bowl Coalition in which the ultimate goal was to get #1 and #2 matched together in a postseason game. The '93 Sugar Bowl was the first national championship game with #1 Miami taking on #2 Alabama. The 1993 season ended with #1 Florida State taking on #2 Nebraska in the Orange Bowl.
Here's another shitty fact for Auburn in regards to 1993. Even though they went undefeated, there were three other major P5 teams that finished ranked ahead of them in the regular season's final AP Top 25 poll. #1 Florida State (11-1), #2 Nebraska (11-0), and #3 West Virginia (11-0). And then you had #4 Notre Dame sitting at 10-1 while Auburn was 11-0 and ranked #5. So even if they hadn't been on probation, the chances of them making it to the national championship game would have been slim to none.

Great. Still a program with some of the most NCAA violations in the history of the game.

Have fun laughing all the way to a 7-5 record these next few seasons.

Not entirely true depending on perspective.
1. The Miami-Alabama Sugar Bowl was not the first bowl game pitting #1 vs. #2 for the national championship.
2. In 1994 #2 Penn State was unable to play #1 Nebraska due the Big 10 and/or Pac-10 not being a member of the bowl alliance. Same thing happened with Michigan and Nebraska in 1997. So 1992 was not the first year that bowl ties were completely out the window in favor of matching the best two teams together. I believe 1998 was the first year #1 and #2 could play in a bowl regardless of conference affiliation.

I was young. We’re any of the games available on pay per view or was it strictly no tv at all?

1983 hurt the worst.
Auburn was #3 going into the Sugar Bowl. Number 1 and 2 lost their bowl games. Auburn played a 11 game season then and with the bowl game ended up playing 9 ranked teams that year and going 11-1. Miami jumped from #5 to number 1 having only played 3 ranked teams that year. Both Miami and Auburn played a highly ranked Florida team that year and Florida curb stomped Miami and Auburn beat Florida. That one I’ll never understand.

It felt great, especially after going 5-6 the two prior years. Just a great season with many memorable games. No TV, but I went to all the home games and a couple of road games, so that wasn't much of a factor.
Due to the timing of the sanction announcement, I think the NCAA thought we would take the no TV part in '94, but AU said, screw that, let's get it over with.
The NCAA levied their sanctions about two days before a scheduled ESPN Thursday night season opener. Almost no Ole Miss fans showed up, but the stadium was very nearly full and very loud. I think they were hoping for 50k, and got about 86k. It seemed to inspire the team and in turn, they inspired the crowd.
It was just a really fun year, with a team that just always seemed to find a way.

It was my sophomore year at Auburn. What a fun season! Pat Nix was in a couple of my classes.

1983 was when I realized the choosing of a champion had way more to do with selling newspapers and magazines than finding the most deserving or best team. The media hyped the Nebraska vs Miami thing as the National Title Game assuming Nebraska was going to win. The results were pre-determined as they in many cases still are to this day.
