Very impressive, as much as I hate Bama even I think these are the best two teams in the nation

Everyone wants to shite on the acc but Duke is absolutely a dominant team. As everyone knows though, it all depends on the matchups in March. Can be the best team all year and not make the sweet 16

Auburn's offense put up the best Points Per Possession performance in the KenPom era tonight.

That must be adjusted PPP because Alabama had 1.53 last year against liberty.

May be. I was listening to Fo68 while watching other games. Could have missed it.

They said Auburn's was 1.89 during the broadcast.

Auburn is an outstanding team and can absolutely win a NC.

That said, Duke with Evans emerging(47% 3P%) as a complement to Kneuppel and Flagg, if Duke gets Proctor back they are clearly the most talented team in the country.

Ken Pom has them #1 (2 off / 4 def)
Evan Miya has them #1 (1 off / 3 def)

They are just off the charts talented and can win so many different ways.

Duke would have lost 4-5 games in SEC gauntlet

They are talented. They've also had huge efficiency boosts from the terrible ACC. Even the big bump they got from the Illinois win has the shine taken off of it a bit when you realize Illinois was dealing with its whole team having the flu or some virus. They did absolutely demolish Illinois, but that team has some computer trickery of its own going on. They've really gone down over the past few weeks.

That said, I do think all of it has less to do with Duke's potential as a team than it does with the NPOTY race. I think pundits who try to diminish the difference in the two leagues this season in an effort to give the nod to Flagg are being disingenuous.

I’ve got a feeling that March will prove this conference isn’t the best ever like we’ve heard. We will get a lot of teams in but the first weekend might be brutal. Time will tell if I’m right.

Not based on efficiency.

Not based on talent.

Not based on how they performed head to head against common opponents including of course Auburn.

They’re a historically elite team on paper playing in a historically soft ACC.

Doesn’t mean they can’t lose or wouldn’t have an additional loss or two in the SEC.

But they’d be elite regardless of which conference they were playing in.

Yeah i think it’s certainly possible

Although I’d love to think we’re just beat a six seed level team by 30

They probably would’ve dropped 3-4 games by now. It’s so hard to win on the road in this conference this year. Auburn, Bama, Florida, A&M, Tennessee and Mizzou are really really good especially Auburn. They would get tripped up playing any of these teams.

I'm not sold on Sheyer just yet. Maybe he just had a bad night, but his coaching vs UK was terrible.

Technically both things are true.

Duke is a REALLY good team.

The ACC is ALSO absolute dogshit.

No potential #1 seed has had an easier path to a good record than Duke.

It’s true that they would’ve had a much harder path in the SEC and almost certainly would’ve dropped an additional game. The ACC is absolute garbage this year.

It’s also fair to point out that they already beat Auburn head to head and would be favored on a neutral court against anyone in the conference based on their advanced metrics.

From a team talent standpoint Auburn and Bama are the only rosters close to Duke. It’s not to say that there aren’t teams that would matchup well or that they couldn’t or wouldn’t win a game against them. But from a pure talent standpoint it isn’t that close and the NBA draft will demonstrate that.

I’d also point out that in a game where the officiating is loose against a team like Tennessee for example who loves to body it could present a major challenge to a team that while athletically far superior (no one on the TN roster would start for Duke right now), TN could definitely win if it was a slug fest. The ACC doesn’t allow that kind of contact so adjusting could be a problem for a team that’s young and not as physical as some teams in the SEC where a lot more contact is allowed some nights.

But if you asked every coach in America who they didn’t want to see in the tournament it would be Duke followed by Auburn followed by everyone else.
