During the 10 year period from 1982 to 1991, Alabama was in the championship game of the SEC tournament 8 times compared to only 4 for Kentucky. Alabama won 5 of those championship games. Bama was more of a force in SEC basketball during Wimp's heyday than Kentucky.
Umm, no.

Kentucky won six regular season titles during the time span you mention while Alabama had one. Just like every other sport, the regular season champion is "the" champion. Kentucky also had a final four, three elite eights and a couple of sweet 16s. Bama was the king of sweet 16s with five or six, but never went farther and was by no means more of a force than Kentucky during that stretch.

Alabama is one of the most grossly underachieving teams in postseason basketball in the country.

Considering the players and regular season results and number of tournaments made and such, the postseason goods are laughably scarce.

The tournament champion is the only team that gets an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament. During this time period, the SEC still had divisional play for basketball.

Who gets the trophy? Do you have any for those "regular season championships" where you won the Eastern Division but didn't even win the tournament? tournament?

And let's not forget that you had to vacate everything in 1988.

Oh God spare me the conference tournament champions are the true conference champions talk

There are SEC Champions and SEC Tournament Champions, and the former is a more complete and impressive feat than the latter.

Your stupidity and LSU obsession is unmatched

It was more a point about no one cares about a second tier college sport but LSU. LSU put more resources into college baseball than anyone else in the country starting in the 1990s because LSU football was dog shite, no one else was trying in baseball, so LSU found a sport no else really tried at and dominated.

Now they pretend baseball is a part of some mythical big 3 college sports

I was a young little bassid during the Wimp Sanderson years but Bama basketball was very fun to watch back then. Back when Chris Jackson and Shaq were at LSU. Fun times in SEC basketball for sure. Thank you for posting this information OP!

Umm, nope. The SEC did not use divisions during the time frame referenced ITT. Divisions were used from 1991-92 to 2011-12.

Regular season champ gets their trophy. Tournament champ gets their own trophy.
Here is Kentucky with its 2011 tournament trophy:

Here is LSU with its 2006 regular season trophy, when the Tigers had a 14-2 record, best in the league, including East Division winner Tennessee, which was 12-4. Florida won the tourney that year.

Me? I didn't vacate anything. And, I'm also not a Kentucky fan.

Easiest ticket for Bama? Getting inside Coleman Coliseum.

Dude no one in the state of Alabama cares about basketball except maybe South Alabama Jaguars.

Historically Bama is 3rd in attendance behind UK and UT. True the last 6 years too with a little SC, ARK and LSU sprinkled in. Too bad nobody consistently gives a shite about LSU BKB, even the locals.

Surprising they have only made the tournament 20 times. I figured it would be more.

Due to integration, many southern schools didn't participate in the NCAA tourney back in the day.

You know, there was a time back in the 70s and 80’s when basketball was like football and they didn’t invite every half-arse power 5 team and every winner of every shitty podunk conference to the tourney. They didn’t go to 32 teams until 1975 and it’s slowly grown over time to the circus it is now. And in those days, they only allowed 2 teams per league.
That has a lot to do with our lack of tourney appearances. There was also a day back in the last century when the NIT was a bigger, more prestigious tourney than the NCAA. Teams would actually decline an NCAA bid to play in the NIT and to hopefully make it to Madison Square Garden for the Finals. It got the point where the NCAA finally banned teams from post season play if they declined an NCAA bid. That was what killed the NIT. Suddenly, in 1971 you had to accept an NCAA bid or sit home. So tourney appearances and Final Fours aren’t the be-all end-all measurement we assume it is today.

Wow. That’s neat.

How many final four appearances do they have again?

The same number that UF has in undefeated seasons in football.

Look it it up, bitch.
