A great tribute by the Texas Longhorns Band honoring A&M students that died in 1999

When it comes right down to it, sports is just that -- sports. It's neither life nor death. Just a sport.
This video of the Texas band playing "Amazing Grace" at the game at Texas A&M in 1999 is extremely moving.
Texas A&M will be remembering the students who died 25 years ago as a bonfire collapsed that killed 12 students and injuring dozens more on November 18, 1999.

Woke Austin would not allow a Christian gospel classic to be played now.

Every fanbase on here loves to talk shite. I’ve heard the jokes about this incident, Katrina, the tornado outbreaks, etc. At the end of the day, that’s a small fraction of the fanbase for any given school. I think most anybody on here can understand causes greater than football. I’ve seen members of this online community do special things to help out others in need. The more I’ve read about this tragedy, the worse it seems to get, especially now that I have a child. Those victims could have been anybody’s kids, and they died while performing something so simple as a college tradition. Sad.
ETA: on a side note, I was in Tiger Band when we played VaTech in 2007. It was their second game after the shooting, granted it was about 4 months after the event. For the first and only time, we played a visiting team’s alma mater on the field.

Wake Forest and NCSU did something similar this fall after Helene. Always good to see those who look beyond sport.
Then, on the opposite extreme, there's the Stanford band..
Stanford Band Shenanigans

But the school it's is supported and ran by liberal wacko. Austin is as blue as the sky.

Nah, LSU "hosted" Carolina after the floods in Columbia in 2015. The Tiger Band played Carolina's fight songs and alma mater, to my recollection. Class.

I think you would be pleasantly surprised at what’s going on at UT right now. We got so nuts that the tide turned a couple years ago. We already had momentum towards sanity going into this election and many of our key leaders are people from the business community. Very encouraged by our direction.

I stand corrected.

The conservatives are in control.
Kevin Eltife is as SEC as it gets. Tyler boy. Strong conservative. Has fixed so many broken things at Texas. He’s a big reason why we are even in the SEC. He’s why we hired Sark. The vast majority of our donors are oil and gas guys that feel the same way and we are all happy to be in the SEC.

I mean, that’s their schtick. It’s basically a student-run organization that the university loosely monitors.

Too bad we can’t agree that this was a good post about a tribute. Instead let’s start talking about fuking politics.

I love to give those tu shites hell, but that's just college rivalry and sport.
The list of incredible people I can name that graduated from Texas is long. Great institution. Great people.
That day was a day to remember the things that truly matter. And I thank every one of them for that moment of genuine kindness.

A truly great gesture by the Longhorn Marching Band in their performance, but the only thing missing was the traditional protocol of removing hats while playing 'Amazing Grace'.
