2004 USC was not that good. They were solid, but nowhere near the team people make them out to be. Christ, that team is so overblown, and all thanks to a shitty Oklahoma team.

I think 2004 Auburn would have taken 2004 USC. But that 2004 Auburn team was really good too.

Here's where USC would succeed against Alabama:

- USC's defensive line was really stout that year. They would pressure Coker quite a bit, but we saw Alabama overcome that kind of pressure in this year's NC game.

- Reggie Bush could return punts, kickoffs, and go deep. Alabama would shut him down in the running game, but he would be a tough person to cover for the secondary that can give up deep balls at times.

- Leinart's accuracy was ridiculous in college. He would place balls just like Deshaun Watson did against Alabama, and Leinart had the receivers to make the catches.

Here are some stats to consider:

Scoring per game:

USC 38 to 13
Alabama 35 to 15

Rushing per carry:
USC 4.7 to 2.6
Alabama 4.6 to 2.4

Passing per game:
USC 271 to 199
Alabama 227 to 200

Total offensive yards per game:
USC 449 to 279
Alabama 427 to 276

Kick return average:
USC 23 to 21
Alabama 21 to 19

Interceptions
USC 22 to 7
Alabama 19 to 10

Sacks:

USC 50 to 25
Alabama 52 to 26

Penalty yards per game:
USC 45 to 42
Alabama 55 to 46

Use that for what you will. Looks like an even match up. Should consider that Alabama played more games than USC with any total stats (sacks, interceptions). I personally think that USC team was overrated and that Alabama would win as long as Bush didn't get any big plays.

I would take the '04 USC teams over any of Bama's title-winning teams. The '04 USC team was basically Bama with elite QB play. Their offensive line and running game was just as good as Bama's and their pass rush was unbelievable. They had three more sacks than this year's Bama team in two fewer games. The only teams I've seen better than that USC squad was 1995 Nebraska and 2001 Miami.

2004 Southern Cal beats 2009 and 2015 Alabama more times than not, for sure.

2004 Southern Cal beats 2012 Alabama more times than not, but it's closer.

2004 Southern Cal and 2011 Alabama are close. Bush is honestly such an X-factor because his speed might be able to get outside on those guys, and he'd be used a lot in the passing game. White would be useless. Southern Cal would have to throw more than they want to, but having Bush makes that okay.

Southern Cal had one of the top 5 defenses in the nation that season, so they weren't chopped liver on that side either. If I had to pick one side, I'd say USC. But that would be a fun game to watch.

I missed that the OP wanted all four Bama title teams.

I think 2015 Alabama is extremely underrated. They lost a weird game to Ole Miss, and I think at that point (plus general Bama fatigue) everyone assumed Bama was on the decline.

I would put 2015 front seven against the 2011 Alabama front seven. I might even give 2015 the edge especially if you consider the depth. 2011 didn't have a Rashaan Evans or Tim Williams coming in on passing downs.

Yeah, I mean, I'm sure 2004 AU couldn't have given USC good games like unranked Oregon State, Stanford, and UCLA did that year. What a preposterous position.

If you think McElroy is unbiased, you're mistaken. It's very doubtful he's even an Alabama fan. What you really mean to say, "you agree with me mostly, have an upvote".

2009 and even 2014 Bama would have a field day on 2004 USC.

You mean 2015 Bama? I doubt it, Bamas secondary struggled against Clemson, SC had Jarrett and Smith who would make a lot of plays on them. Not to mention having to account for Reggie as well. SC's defense that year was legit as well.

Although I really liked 04 Auburn and IMO they got fricked out of the title game. OU got blasted 55-19 in a game that was over after the 1st quarter.

Point I'm making here is that 2004 Auburn I don't believe would've put up much of a better fight against that USC team. Jason Williams wouldn't be able to hang considering how Jason White got blasted.

The main question that needs to be addressed is how good that Oklahoma team was. If a very good Georgia hadn't tested Bama in the SECCG, people would still be wondering whether 2012 Bama was dominant or just got an opponent that lucked into an undefeated season in the NC game. So was that Oklahoma as good as advertised?

04 USC over every Bama winner outside of 2011 which would be a tossup. That Bama team had the goat defense with a very good offense without an elite WR.

Auburn played a much worse strength of schedule than either Southern Cal or Oklahoma that season.

Southern Cal would have beaten Auburn by double digits in a title game.
