We just played terrible down the stretch. Too many missed opportunities and too many fouls. Like you said though we punched way above our talent level and that’s coaching. We need to commit to Beard big time and throw some cash at the hoops program.

Great year! Would have loved to win but Auburn would’ve destroyed us anyway.

Agreed. Refs were arse but we had every opportunity to win and it hurts.

I still can’t get over that charge call in the first half with the guy both feet in the air and then 2 possessions later it was actual charge but called a defensive foul

The speed of the game has eclipsed the ability of the refs to make the right call far too often.

Is there any reason why Ole Miss can’t replicate what Bruce Pearl has done at Auburn?

The similarities are crazy:
Historically the worst SEC program
Built a brand new arena
Hired a great coach with a questionable past

Pearl went 26-40 his first two season at Auburn and made it to the final 4 in his 5th season.

If we can pull some five stars in football which nobody thought was possible until 2013 we can pull one generational type player in basketball. Just one Cooper Flagg type guy changes our trajectory forever.

It's going to be interesting to see how Beard builds next year's team.

By whom? He's not a finalist for the Naismith National Coach of the Year.

EDITED: It was the Jim Phelan one.

Better give Beard another raise or extension now that A&M is open.

For some reason I could see them coming after him

A&M would do it just to stick a thumb in Texas's eye.

Hopefully between the $$$ we are likely going to have to throw at him, and his gratefulness of us giving him a second chance in short order after his fiasco in Texas, he will stick with us.

If it’s 7 million annually (offer I heard online) it will be hard to keep him. Regardless, it would need to happen pretty quickly for the portals sake.

I don’t think the money will be a deciding factor for Beard that much. This comes down to how much he wants to move back to Texas. The worst part if he left is the timing is terrible. We basically would be the last big program to hire a basketball coach. I think if it happened the two candidates would be AK and Mike White.

I would throw up in my mouth at Mike White but I would completely stop caring about the sport if we rehired AK.

No and No on both those. If White can't do any better than he has at Georgia after flaming out at Florida especially with what they have done since, he sure can't do it here. AK's sun has set at Ole Miss.

But let's not talk about it like we've already lost Beard. That thought makes my tummy hurt.

We're doing exactly what we've done with Kiffin the last year and a half.....create our own controversy. Until something "real" comes out....just ignore it and go about your day. All you're doing is creating the smoke.

Beard flirted with Arkansas last year and he used that job for a new contract and more NIL money. Arkansas is a better job than Texas A&M anyway. He’s probably gonna at least us A&M like he did Arkansas for the same thing. I don’t think he’s going to A&M unless he really wants to move back to Texas.

Sounds like Beard is staying.
He’s a loyal man which is increasingly rare these days.
