In 1928 a split in the Missouri Valley Conference led to the formation of the Big Six Conference (OU, KU, KSU, ISU, NEB, MIZZ). The Sooners went 5-3 under 2nd year Head Coach Adrian Lindsey and finished in 3rd place in the Big Six in 1928

87 years ago today: Walter Cronkite called his first OU football game at just 20 years old. Cronkite recalled his first broadcast at OU being a “disaster” due to lack of preparation. It landed him in his boss’s office and he vowed to never be unprepared again. Years later, he would be called “the most trusted man in America.” Cronkite anchored the CBS Evening News and helped guide America through the Apollo moon landing, JFK’s death and the Vietnam War.

Over in the student union there’s one of the old sooner schooners you crawl down underneath it. It says Miami sucks on the bottom of it.
