Stoops?
Petrino?
Ed Orgeron?
Jimbo Fisher?
Herman?
Briles?
I'll bet they look hard at Herman, but I think he's waiting on Texas. They get Briles instead.

From what I'm reading, rumor is they had Jimbo ready to jump ship last year but they were about 3 million/year apart. If they pony up the money, who knows.
Herman depends on Strong and Texas. Texas is his dream job. If Texas fizzles, Strong is gone and Herman takes the job. He is a Myers protege, he knows for sustained success he's got to go to a school with rich recruiting. If Texas wins the Big 12, Herman goes to LSU. IMO.
I think 99% of their efforts are on those 2, plan B will be an offensive minded coach. Briles, because he is available and would sign immediately.

I've thought about Herman. I think he wants a more prestigious University for his next job - texas, Notre Dame, USCw, Stanford. Three of those may be open this year, and it's just the impression I get of him, but I think they would have more appeal to him if the money was equal.
Any of those three would also give him the easier path to the playoff.
Then there's the other option - staying put. If Houston joins the swc-lite, he has low expectations, fantastic recruiting territory, and an easy path to the playoff through that conference.
I don't know. He could end up at LSU, but I don't expect it.

Who is Patterson, because I've heard his name as a serious candidate, also?

Gary Patterson, TCU

I would assume that means Gary Patterson, longtime HC at TCU. He's had so many chances to leave for greener pastures before and chosen to stay, I just don't see it. He is beloved at TCU, and I think they'll pay whatever it takes to keep him.

If Herman wanted to coach at LSU he would have been hired last year.

Jimbo is another fraud.
So many of them in college football.
I mean, Jesus. How in the hell Hugh Freeze and guys like Butch Jones run the programs they do is insane.
But then again, we have two candidates for President who have zero business being where they're at.
Whole world is fraudulent.

I wouldn't have hired that guy to manage a 7 Eleven.
The world is nuts.

Time for LSU to get a taste of reality. Herman isn't leaving the state of Texas. LSU next hire will be larry fedora

I can't believe some people wanted us to hire that guy.

I think they will have a hard time getting the best coaches to come there unless they really open up the wallets. Miles did everything there but beat Saban or win a NC every other year. If i have a good job I would not leave it for LSU and I think other coaches will think the same.

I can see that being the case.
Saban is basically going to cock block LSU from getting a great coach.
There are better options that have more of a clear road to success.
Or maybe a guy like Hermann see's it as a great opportunity and wants the challenge.

I tend to agree with sharps. LSU is a great job no doubt. BUT, it's a very tough road to the playoff there. And very high expectations - unrealistic in some ways. I personally think if Herman leaves his current gig for anything other than texas, it's ND or USCw.

You draw Bama and Florida every year. You have a fan base that leaves the stadium if you are down a score. You can get fired for winning ten games a season and being a paragon of virtue.
They can drop the cash but I think Missouri, Arkansas, and other schools can offer a better shot at winning a title because we won't fire you for going 9-3.
Hell, we will extend your contract.

Truth.

I think Mizzou an Arkansas both have pretty reasonable expectations of our programs, and patience for coaches. Some schools and programs are just unrealistic.
