We've been flirting pretty heavily with some DTs this last month or so. How much of that is because Williams and Barrow were studs, and how much is it the lack of confidence in our current guys?
I'd like to see Gracial and Marshall get opportunities, but I'm beginning to wonder how much faith Drink has in our DT depth.

Batoon has only recruited 3 defensive players for next years team. He probably wants to sign a few more of his own. He brought LB Khalil Jacobs with him from South Alabama and has signed DL Eddie Kelly and LB Jeremiah Beasley.
He has 5 commits for 2025 2 on the DL, 2 LB’s, and 1 Edge.
Battoon played safety and has been a secondary and/or safeties coach everywhere he has been, but as a DC it looks like he puts a lot of focus on the DL. In 2022 South Alabama ranked 4th in rushing defense allowing 93 yards a game.

They aren't "studs" or even starters for us. Williams and McClellan are the starters. But in the SEC you gotta have depth, and if experienced depth comes your way, you go after it.
With Damonic Williams our competition was OU, TX and LSU. Anytime Mizzou is included in that group it's a win for the program. But let's be honest, Williams is almost the same player as the kid we got from New Mexico.
Barrow wants to play with his old teammate Zion. We're in the mix with Miami and LSU, another program win.
Both players got alot of pub because the teams that needed them are hurting at DT. Mizzou is not, but it's nice to be considered with the big boys.

Frankly, I'm happy that a few of our non-transfer portal DTs are going to get a shot to produce.

We need to stop flirting and hook up with a couple.

Maybe Drink prefers to always keep an iron in the fire when it comes to recruiting? It shows everyone that you are relentless when it comes to acquiring talent, and serves as motivation for the players on the team. I'm hoping Gracial and Marshall step up.

It does; you never know with today's recruits. They get butthurt over almost everything so sometimes just hanging around gets results.

The way I see the DT group: Williams needs to stay healthy, McClellan needs to reach his potential, Webb needs to adjust quickly to the big leagues, and the previous two mentioned need to realize that they are varsity now. Their JV days are over.
