While he was one of the very few with a state school education, he was actually accepted to West Point as a college bound lad but did not go so he could fight in WW I.

Dang I feel like I just stepped back into the 1970's!
I miss the days of actual discussions and not just social media regurgitation.

For folks who may not know the history of the state, here is the skinny.
Dropping it here because politics has always been a part of the state
In the early days of the USA, there were 2 parties
Federalist = landed gentry + lawyers + bankers
Democratic - Republicans = farmers + small merchants + workers + others
Oddly, 2 people would transform this and both were from Kentucky
Henry Clay started as a Democratic - Republican as his father was honorable but not wealthy so he fit that profile. He died and HC's mom remarried $$$$ the 2nd time. HC followed suit and married big $$$$. Over time he was seduced by the opposition and all that $$$$ and was part of the split in the Democratic - Republican Party that transitioned the Federalist Party to the Whig Party. Interesting how $$$$ and power changed a man so much in his lifetime
William Pope DuVal stated as a Democratic - Republican as well as a young man in the frontier land of Kentucky. He too married $$$ but it took longer for him to go Whig (former Federalist, now Republican) and he wound up as the 1st territorial governor of the State of Florida (hence Duval county and Duval Street).
The Federalist of old have been reborn as the modern Republican Party (starting with Regan) and the Republican Party of my youth (pre Regan) has all but disappeared. Sadly a Republican like IKE does not exist today and this will not end well for this country or the rank and file of the Republican masses of old.

Ronald Regan would have gone to jail

you seem to be blinded by your personal hatred of Trump; he did a great job as POTUS & I am excited for his 2nd term
1st time in my lifetime we had a POTUS that kept us out of war *THAT, my friend, is why he is so hated
he stopped (or rather, slowed down) government grift
his America First policies did exactly that, put the American people first & our overlords, who build wealth on the death and destruction of the common man can't/won't allow for that...

dcbl, I like you man, you know that but I am old enough to know where all the skeletons are going back to Kennedy and Goldwater.
I was (and still am) an old school God & Country guy, they are all but dead and gone now. Ollie North was an old school God & Country guy that did the old school thing and fell on the sword for Ronnie.

No, my eyes are wide open on DJT and this was long before he was POTUS. You want to shift the narrative to the spin doctors of today and I am just telling you the cold hard truth. I posted about Hollywood Florida from a guy who was actually there in person yet not one person bothered to check the actual truth and call me a liar. Not because I hate DJT but because I am a God & Country person first and am telling it like it is, Same thing happened to the folks who spoke up about Coen back in the day and the whole US of A was almost lost till they outed the Red Master Baiter and packed him back in his cave.

Would you be as excited for Nero as well?

THAT, my friend, is why he is so hated
He is not as much hated as there are old folks like me who have seen this dog and pony show before and it does not end well for the US or the world.
quote:
he stopped (or rather, slowed down) government grift
Have you ever been in the company of real old school mob guys?
He is the crook, not the one protecting us from crooks
quote:
who build wealth on the death and destruction of the common man
Most wealth was built by shysters who profited from death and destruction of the common man to build their massive fortunes. The difference is this time the media has sold us the sham first and we are headlong down the rabbit hole
Folks on here just regurgitate what they are spoon fed by very slick media and the last true POTUS (D or R) ended with the 70's and the oil shocks.
I was there for history as it was happening, not just hearing what some Left or Right think tank wants me to accept like a sheep so that can be slaughtered without resistance.

Trump like most rich kids in the 70s were able to wiggle out of the draft. To be honest most anyone with life ambitions would do the same. They we getting shipped off to Vietnam for a pointless war to be ambushed in jungle. It just wasn’t a good idea to sign up for Someone smart like trump would tether go into business and build himself an empire rather than die for a military industrial complex’s one. However most fighter pilots complete their missions & return to base repeatedly their entire careers. They don’t get made into politicians

Depends on the person and the society
Civil War - lots of future Yankee Robber Barrons bought their way out of the draft and then profited greatly by those who died and served
World War I - some of the most elite families sent their men to fight and die
World War II - same as World War I in that the children of some of the most elite families served their country and died fighting
Wars & Conflicts since - poor send their kids to fight and die so rich kids can stay at home and make money off the dead.
DJT went to a military school to get access to a good college yet got daddy to pull strings to avoid serving. McCain went to Vietnam and suffered the consequences yet still did his duty with honor before returning home.
I respect when those of means serve, and do not respect those with means who take the cowards way out through daddy's money and influence.
Here is a post from the Political Board and why we study history.

Elect me so I can stay out of jail.
Just like the behavior of the old mob guys I grew up around.
