Indirectly or not that’s what happened. We should just let him form the staff that he wants. He never heard of Corn before he came to Auburn. He can ride or die with his strategy and potato gang.

I'd be shocked if Ludwig makes a move anywhere. That would be a huge loss for Utah. He's from Ogden and was a GA at Utah. OC at Utah (twice), Oregon, Cal, Fresno, Vandy and Wisky. All of his jobs have been out here except for Vandy, and he didn't have any other options when Andersen suddenly left Wisky for Oregon State. However Auburn can pay him a ton more than Utah so if he's coin-operated or bad with money he might consider it.

He's run first (60%). He has the Utah/Boise mindset of running effective "plays" rather than having an "offense". You see all sorts of different personnel. Loves using TE's and will go heavy with 12 and 13 personnel, but will also show spread formations frequently too. Runs the fly sweep 3-4 times a game, often times with the TE. Utah has 2 all-conference TE's. Jim Harding (Utah OL coach) and Ludwig work seamlessly together and he always has good OL's with mostly Pacific Islanders in the 2-deep. Harding is really good too. It would be a great hire for AU but it would suck for Utah. He's also an incredible QB coach. He has our QB, Cam Rising (Texas transfer) playing like an all-american. Makes great decisions, 17/3 TD/INT and 146 QB rating.

Yes, but he has worked at multiple spots throughout the SEC and Harsin hired him before the Eagles came in and poached him.

Locked on Auburn guys want Dell McGee for OC. He'd be a big loss for thUGA, which is another positive.

Only concern with McGee is we’d need to bring in someone to work with QBs and he’s never been a play caller.

Harsin could handle some of that if he was willing to bring in a super recruiter, because that is really the only upside for McGee. We have Caddy so don’t need a RB coach.

I think he’d jump at the chance to come home and get a coordinator position.

True. I'm really surprised a smaller school hasn't hired McGee for OC, just because of his recruiting. Harsin was an OC and could call plays (or help him call plays), but they said he has never called plays since being a HC. I'm still hoping for Briles, Grimes, or Lebby.

Dell McGee as OC is the new Rodney Garner for DC fan-logic.

McGee played DB at Auburn and was drafted as a DB. When he started coaching HS, he started as a DB coach and then became a DC before getting the Carver HC job. He spent one season here as an offensive analyst, and then started his string of roles as a RB coach. RB's is one of the least technically involved coaching positions on a team period, hence why it's routinely the spot where you slot in recruiters....which is what Dell McGee is. There is absolutely nothing in his resume which implies that he can be an OC, as he doesn't even have an offensive background. Maybe if he wants to go prove himself at a G5 school for a few years (which he likely won't do), but the thought of him jumping to OC at an SEC school is silly.

Maybe you can somehow rope him in as a "Co-OC" like we had Kodi Burns in (where he clearly wasn't making any play-calls), but how would that even work? People who say "Dell McGee for OC" don't even think about that for one second. Mike Bobo was the QB coach and McGee is a RB coach - so what happens to Cadillac now? Do you fire him? Because neither of those two guys are qualified to switch elsewhere.

Lastly, the idea of using your Coordinator role to plug in a coach who everyone wants solely for his recruiting is so stupid it's not even funny. A Coordinator spot is NOT where you plug in a recruiter, period. Those people need to actually know WTF they're doing schematically. If you want to make a spot for a recruiter on the staff, then fire a position coach elsewhere.

Agree with all you said, and I think he is already "Co-OC" at thUGA.

The issue is that he'd have to take a massive paycut to make that happen, which I'm sure he's not willing to do. He makes $800K+ at Georgia in his current role. A small school is going to pay him what, a third of that in an OC position? If that?

For him, in order to become an OC he would need to sacrifice his current earnings. He's going to sit and hope that some tier-1 program offers him an OC job, but that won't happen because he's not qualified.

He's the "Run Game Coordinator". It's just a stupid title to make him seem more important and keep him content. He's not involved with anything play-calling related.

Could we make McGee running game coordinator and someone else QB coach/passing game coordinator?

Nope. That's just the result of the firing, but not the reason.
