But, in fairness nick Fairley is brought up every year, too by Auburn fans trying to get a rise out of Georgia fans. (Quite successfully I might admit.)
This year I have seen UGA bring it up more--- which is weird to me because that is one topic that definitely will not get a rise out of us.

War Eagle Reader also has Lewis Grizzard's (RIP) commentary on the whole incident:

This appears to be the source for the elderly man slip and fall claim.

As fate would have it, the columnist was scheduled for a speaking appearance at Auburn the following January. He opened with a hoses joke.
“Well, it’s not as wet as it was the last time I was here,” he told 4,400 folks in Beard-Eaves Memorial Coliseum before calling the Auburn-Georgia “one of the greatest examples of sociological progress” he’d ever seen. You know, because a black man was operating one of the water cannons. And most of the Georgia fans on the field were white.

LMAO! So you think the irrigation system is just on one side of the field? But we get the fact that they have to be powerful.

When that sprinkler rotates it might go into stands the which means IT’S TIME FOR IGNORANT REDNECKS TO LEAVE!
So it accidently rotated into stands? Wow.
So who are you most angry at? Yourself? UGA? Bama? Your Parents?

Yeah, never the full story.
I graduated AU in ‘85 and was commissioned in the Navy. I knew I’d rarely get to use the tickets, but I chose to start buying season tickets anyway (36 year season ticket holder now). So while I was away in the Navy, my family back home used my tickets.
My father was at that game and contemporaneously talked to me after that game about what happened. At least two AU security personnel down on the field being treated because they had been struck by things being thrown from the UGA stands.
When shite like that happens, authorities tend to lean towards the “oh my god, riot!” side of the fence than not.
Sorry the grandfather of one of your violent, redneck vandals was hit by some deadly WATER, dawgies. I’m sure, in the end, it was good for him cuz, god knows, dawgs hate baths.

That was called the Hose Bowl for a long time afterward. UGA swore revenge but the Auburn fans didn’t act up when the War Eagles spanked the Dawgs 27-11 the next year.

I haven’t seen the field at JHS wet like that since the 2015 Iron Bowl when it was intentionally soaked.

I think the intro graphic was from the ‘88 game shirt at Tiger Rags which was the next time they came to town
I do agree with the one poster, it was different back then and storming the field as a visitor was more common. In Athens, it was pretty common for visiting teams to take part of the hedges. I think their fans wanted a souvenir too as it was a major upset. That’s why the PA announcer made the announcement prior to the end of the game
As to whether the apparatus was aimed in the stands—a few might have gotten misdirected

Wow!
Do you blow your boyfriend with that mouth?
WTF are you so angry about? You really need to get laid, kick your dog or ninny slap your "partner"
Like I said in a previous post the decision to turn on the water canons was made BEFORE the game if the field was stormed and it's exactly what happened. It had nothing to do with some bullshite riot scenario you're pulling out your well traveled arse.
And as I've said three different posts, those idiots who stormed the field and caused damage got whatever what was coming to em.Just like the AU players who tore up the hedges in '83.Oh wait...
quote:
Conner: Well, we discussed this at length before the game. We had made up our mind — when I redid the field and got it in good shape, we weren’t going to let the fans on it. They could destroy more grass than the players during the game. We told them (Georgia fans) ‘don’t go on the field, you’re not going to be allowed on the field.’ But they went on there and so we opened it up on them and got them a little wet. Coach Dye laughed about it, he said they needed a bath anyways.

Really after Saturday nobody cares. Georgia is about to rape you. And we will pack up our tailgates and move on back to Athens and get ready for Kentucky. This thread is dumb. No worries about us storming the field…maybe Georgia state fans should have stormed the field and beat the refs to death though?

Really? Well, why don't you get a crowd of your badass Dawg fans together for November 13th?
Come up there, go wild, and see how it works out for you. Nothing separating you from our field but air and opportunity.

frick you. You're one of the most know nothing "Vols" on this board.
11 posts Saturday? I know you're not a bright one, Math is obviously not your strong suit. Most of my posts were in the game day threads.
Go here and start counting, idiot.
Why have I been here so much? Right now I am sick. Very sick. Gets a bit boring doing nothing but lying in bed or sitting in a chair.
I'll recover in time.

It started when UGA fans threw whisky bottles on to the field and it hit an AU Police Officer. Think about glass bottles thrown from Row 50. Back in those days AU gave visitors decent seats and it included the Northeast corner of JHS. Today they place them high in the Upper decks.

This thread is freaking dumb
People in the south take football too seriously, end of story. No need to paint broad strokes on either fanbase or school.
Probably Smokeyone. Or at least a protégé.
