Authority is a shaky term for the now defunct BCS or the pageant voted playoff. There is no objective criteria. There’s the eye test. The same eye test that put AL as a 15 point favorite over FL this past weekend. That was clearly reliable and effective. You’ve got undefeated conference champions who didnt get to play for the NC (AU 2004) and multiple non conference champs with losses who did. Or two loss teams who did. (LSU 2007).
