Your highway 30
Except there has been no decision on what route I-14 is supposed to follow. Hwy 30 was proposed, but so has been US-190.

The entire plan is already existing state highways that will become I-14, you dumb arse jockey.

its not like this hasn't been discussed for nearly 10 years now, expect a completed i14 with a single lane road through Louisiana.

I like it. It would save a lot of time.

Originally, I-20 was supposed to replace Highway 80 from Meridian to Savannah.
However, Alabama conspired to route 20/59 together to BHM (which was a big mistake).
MS gets criticized for a lot of things but in highway improvements, we are a country mile ahead of AL.
Examples:
US 45 (from the TN line all the way to State Line, AL) approximately 275 miles is a nice four lane highway.
US 84 (from the MS River to the AL line) approximately 190 miles is a nice four lane highway.
US Highway 98 (from the MS River to the AL line) approximately 200 miles is a nice four lane highway.
BUT, once you enter AL all these highways become harrowing, hilly, curvy TWO lane highways. Why? They carry a large amount of commercial traffic as well as vehicular traffic.
Just don’t understand it.
So the new I-14 will be a nice enhancement for Central/East MS and central AL. It will be a win-win for Meridian.

I wonder if it will make the travel from Dallas to Baton Rouge faster. Less time on 49 is definitely a plus for me.

Driving home from the Memphis area is the biggest pain the arse because its smooth sailing from my brother's house in Eudora (I take 69 to 22 to 45) then I hit the AL state line and get stuck behind three big rigs to make the last 70 miles of the drive slow as hell. Hopefully they'll fix that one day.

This is not true. Although 22 is also signed as 78 the majority of the old hwy is still there and is resigned as AL 118
Um, bad news, but the plans for I-22 directly states that it will "parallel or overlay US-78 for it's entire duration.
As stated in the linked article, some parts of the old roadway was intended to be renumbered and placed in use as alternate routes and some decommissioned.
It almost went through Huntsville. If that had happened, US-72 would have been converted to interstate.

It is horrible from State Line to AL 158 on US 45. In fact, MS built our own 4 lane from State Line to Pascagoula, which is great but unfortunately does not help you if you are going to Mobile and beyond.
That stretch is terrible not to mention if you get behind a log truck. Then it is all over with. Then invariably it seems like it is always raining in Citronelle to make it even worse.

THIS

Large parts of what is now I-22 were also once highways with a different name.
Does not equal this
I can drive the old hwy all the way from Birmingham to damn near Memphis. The stretch of I 22 from I65 to Hamilton was completely new construction and overlaid no hwy.
