He made it into his 90s that's about as full a life as anyone can hope for

It is, but he will rest in peace.

Bobby Bowden’s faith and spirit remain strong.

However, his weakened body is failing him.

Florida State’s legendary football coach – who turns 92 in November – wife Ann and their family announced Wednesday that Bowden has been diagnosed with a terminal medical condition.

"I've always tried to serve God's purpose for my life, on and off the field, and I am prepared for what is to come," Bowden said in a statement shared with the Democrat. "My wife Ann and our family have been life's greatest blessing.

"I am at peace."

The Bowden family has also asked for privacy as Bowden deals with his health.

Bowden's health has deteriorated after he tested positive for COVID-19 in October 2020.

Hospitalized in late June for five days, Bowden has struggled to regain his strength. He has been under supervised care and is resting comfortably at his Killearn Estates home.

"I feel fine but I can't do much," Bowden told the Democrat on Monday, July 5.

Hired from West Virginia in 1976, Bowden posted a 316-97-4 record with two national titles (1993 and 1999) in 34 years at FSU. He had one losing season – 5-6 during his first year at the school – and was forced into retirement following a 7-6 record in 2009.

Damn. Hope he and his family find peace and comfort.

Regardless of affiliation, he is a wonderful human being, a true southern gentleman, and has always been a great ambassador for the sport.

That's a shame. May God be with him and his family. You ran a good course, coach.

Did any coach have a better run that he did in the late 80's to 2000.

Yeah that's true. I guess most 90 year olds are technically terminal anyway. I wish him well though. I had a couple of friends who played for him in the 90s.

Best Coach in CF History for his performances off and on the field. He proved you could win and still do it the right way.

Good man, and a long full life. None of us will take anything, what he leaves behind will be lasting.

As far as Top 5 finishes go, he stands alone.

It would certainly be hard to find one.

He and Spurrier had some epic match-ups, and were fantastic larger-than-life characters to root for (and against).

Well said, Bowden has always been one of my favorite people in college sports.

The country is losing way too many good people lately. While the assholes seem to be multiplying. A good man, RIP.

Was it 97 that they played a rematch? Sugar Bowl I think. Those were great games.

We need more good ole boys like he and Spurrier. Too many football coaches today are basically what modern NASCAR drivers are and it sucks arse.

Prayers for coach and his family.

Pat Dye passing, and now RC Slocum and Bobby Bowden with terrible health issues. The greats I grew up watching are getting old, getting sick, and passing away. Really sad to think about.

Somebody remind Spurrier, Frank Beamer, and Dan Snyder to go get regular check-ups.

Yep, '97 Sugar Bowl.

Florida avenged a previous loss to them earlier in the season.

Those Florida/Miami/Florida State teams were dominant in that era, and had some amazing games (wide right).
