Alabama Track and Field’s Eliud Kipsang Named National and Conference Runner of the Week
In a week that saw three men's collegiate records fall, Alabama distance ace Eliud Kipsang's was judged the most impressive by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA), after breaking the 1,500-meter record by nearly a second, earning him National Athlete of the Week honors.
Kipsang was also named the Southeastern Conference Runner of the Week by the league office after running 3:33.74 in the 1,500 meters at the Bryan Clay Invitational in California last Friday. He finished nearly three seconds faster than the second-fastest collegian in the nation this season.
With his record-breaking run, he now holds the first, sixth and 12th fastest collegian efforts in history when it comes to the 1,500 meters.
The Crimson Tide is slated to return to action at this weekend's Crimson Tide Invitational, April 22-23.
