I actually had a conversation with a friend about this the other day - his daughter is at A&M. He told me that the "younger" generation doesn't have the hatred for Texas that us older fans do. They don't really consider them unless playing the team like the baseball game. And they love "horns down' because the sips and their fans take it so personally.
Now the hatred for LSU is a great thing to see - that is the real team the the younger fans want to beat. I agree with them. LSU is more important these days
As for me, I'd play Texas anytime. We'd kick the crap out of them nine times out of ten

We went 9-1 in the SEC in Jimbo's 3rd season.
This year we make things right for that 1 loss.
Longhorns can jerk off to the thought of getting on the field with us but unless they make the playoffs this year it ain't happening.

I personally kinda like the “Horns Down” done by opposing fans.. As the old saying goes..

Every time it is done, it increases the brand value. Every time someone buys a Longhorn sticker and turns it upside down, or has a boy peeing on it, or they saw off the horns, it increases the brand value.
As for the 9 outta 10.. you may have missed your best chance to do that over the last 10 years. And yes, Texas is partially at fault for this as well.
I actually have thought about another possibility regarding this game, especially with the new playoff format that is coming..
In the years that neither Texas or Texas A&M make the 12 team playoff, those 2 teams will face each other in the XYZ bowl played annually on XYZ date, regardless of record. The game would prob need to rotate between DKR & Kyle as neutral sites may not be open to the idea of the game not being played.
Matchups like this would be entertaining imo and add excitement outside of the top 12. The game would 100% still mean something to both sides.
I don’t know if that is even possible, but it might be a fun way to play the game.

We have to play in a bowl the first time. It’s worth too much for a pop-in OOC game. Then after the seal is broken who cares.

Because we’re clearly better now in football and better historically even if y’all have an edge head to head.
