My understanding is he contributed several interviews he did for the story...but he did not write the story and non of the interviews he conducted made it to the actual published article...

Well, he already lived 30 minutes from Atlanta.
How much worse can it be?

On March 23, 1963 the Post ran an exposé on college football, The Story of a College Football Fix, charging that James Wallace “Wally” Butts Jr.—the University of Georgia’s athletic director and former football coach—had given away game secrets to Alabama head coach Paul “Bear” Bryant that affected the outcome of a 1962 Georgia-Alabama game.

AJC has a similar history with making up bullshite about University of Alabama athletics too if my memory serves. I wasn’t there to see the worst infractions but they have been recounted to me…

He, Bobby Dodd, the Atlanta Constitution/Journal, Saturday Evening Post, and especially anything associated with Georgia Tech can collectively go bathe in a pig sty.
What a collection of arseholes… and arsehole publications… Everyone should know that the source of AC/J antipathy to Alabama was Bobby Dodd and Georgia Tech’s despair over Coach Bryant’s rise. Frick Georgia Tech.

In context, 1963 was almost 60 years ago.
I’m familiar with a lot of SEC history, and have never heard of this guy. (I do remember bad blood between Alabama and the AJC.)
