Let's start with the obvious selections first, shall we? Nick Saban's contract extension through the 2028 season means Alabama is all but guaranteed to win a couple more title if college football's top coach stays through the remainder of his deal. Saban topped Bear Bryant for most all-time with his seventh national championship in January and is the favorite to win another during the 2021 season. Given the fact the Crimson Tide just signed the most-talented recruiting class ever per the 247Sports Composite, it's a safe bet to consider Alabama one of the title hopefuls every summer as long as Saban has the players.
GEORGIA BULLDOGS
Number of titles over the next decade: At least 1

Breakthrough is coming for the Bulldogs, who are one of the teams on the verge of their first national championship in more than 30 years under coach Kirby Smart. Georgia is doing all it can in preparation of beating Alabama at some point and ending Nick Saban's impressive reign over former assistants-turned-head coaches. Heading into Year 6 at the program, Smart is 52-14 overall with three appearances in the SEC Championship Game (including one league title). Getting to the finale in the SEC puts you squarely in the national title hunt and Georgia has the roster to advance in the coming years.
LSU TIGERS
Number of titles over next decade: At least 2 Playoff appearances

Being set up to succeed at an elite level in college football is half of the equation and that's never been an issue in Baton Rouge. Situated in a recruiting hotbed with resources in place to win now, LSU will never be a program that goes dormant outside of the realm of elites for an extended period of time. Even during a bad season in 2020 coming off an unbeaten run to a national championship, this roster flexed its muscles several times and even beat the SEC East champion Florida Gators. Recruiting is the lifeblood of any program and the Tigers always do it at an extremely high level.
TEXAS A&M AGGIES
Number of titles over next decade: At least 1 Playoff appearance
quote:
A few years ago, we projected Texas A&M's rise under Jimbo Fisher because the writing was on the wall in College Station. Not only was the program committed to winning long-term by hiring one of the few active head coaches who owns a national title, but the Aggies were starting to hang with — and beat — some of the big boys on the schedule. The infrastructure is in place to win at Texas A&M and it appears Fisher now has the bullets in the chamber to get there. Believing you can get there is part of the battle and the Aggies came close during the 2020 campaign.
FLORIDA GATORS
Number of titles over next decade: At least 1 Playoff appearance
quote:
Dan Mullen is the right man for the job at Florida, a program with the necessary factors in place to win big. A master developer of getting the most out of what he has to work with and catering to his players' strengths, what Mullen will have to do over over the next few years is get to a heightened level of recruiting within the SEC and be comparable to Alabama, Georgia and LSU given the challenges of the meat-grinder schedule. Even with a defense that underachieved last season, the Gators came one possession away from taking down the eventual national champions. It's obvious Florida isn't far away from a title under Mullen

To leave Auburn completely off considering our roller coaster history seems naive

Think LSU would depend on how hard the hammer comes down on them (*if that were to happen, that is). Bias aside UF has to beat out a lot of teams swooping in state for recruits which might take a while to rise above them assuming Dan keeps them in contention for Atlanta/CFP.

You have exactly ONE title in the last 60 years. That isn't a rollercoaster. You're a mediocre program.

Seems like Georgia will need to enter the CFP without Alabama being there to win. They just can't seem to get over the hump with a great team.
They would trounce teams like ND, OU, Clemson.

To be fair they should have had a shot in 2004. And then they played for it again in 2014. Then lots a lows in-between. That IS a roller-coaster.

A roller coaster where you're close to the ground for the majority of the ride is a shitty one.

Could. should and would have do not count...... either you do it or you don't and they didn't, case closed. And since you are from PA and may not know, the two they have were very questionable to say the least.

Not as many lows as mediocre.

Good article, because everyone knows that nothing ever changes in college football.
