Could CNS name his price?

With his contract extension this week it made me wonder..
If Nick Saban went to Byrne and said "I want 15M a year"
would Alabama pay him or let him go?
I couldnt imagine the blowback from the Alabama faithful if the AD let that happen.
What's keeping him from asking for that much money?

I'm sure he probably could do so

He doesn't need any more money. Between his salary and endorsements, a couple extra million wouldn't impact his lifestyle. Why gouge the school and athletic dept for more?

Saban could easily do this, and probably has been asked what he wants to make. He and his wife are very unselfish, though.
Bama is going to make sure he’s the highest paid coach, but he’s not going to ask for more.

Saban's not that kind of person

I'm sure he could ask for whatever he wants, and I'd probably support giving it to him at this point.
What probably keeps him from asking for that much is that he also negotiates for higher wages for his assistants, and he needs to keep them around.

This is a good point. Saban is successful because he knows how to treat assistants and get the most out of them. They also know that they are coaching for a head coaching job.
Don’t be surprised if Golding ends up doing what Smart did after 3-4 more seasons. We finally have some defensive depth at all positions and are absolutely loaded with 5 star talent. Golding will get a decent head coaching gig soon.

Well he did use the Texas rumors as leverage to get a nice pay raise and extension

He’s still going to Texas any year now.

Yes. He could have his salary doubled and still be underpaid. There was an article on The Athletic recently suggesting that he is worth ~$50 million to Alabama annually without even taking football revenue into account.

Because he has all the money he could ever spend and has everything he needs at Alabama

Character

In Alabama it all revolves around what team you root for. Good character translates to success, so I’ll let you decide where the bad character usually falls.

Saban could easily do this, and you bring up a great point. He could use his ridiculous leverage, and extract every last penny he could get. He could make the university feel sick about how much they had to pay him.
This is what pro athletes do all the time. It's classless.
Nick Saban isn't this kind of person. He sees the value in community, and building good relationships with everyone in it.
He wants a legacy of class, not of a selfish prick just in it for the money. It's like Ali vs. Mayweather .

REC would murder him like they did Logan Young
If they couldn't have him, they would surmise, then no one can
They would probably contract Mike Dubose to sit in a nearby car and watch it go down as an overseer, just like John Gotti taking out Big Pauly Castellano in front of Sparks Steak House

All these character responses are nonsense. If that was the case he would keep his salary the same and just ask to be extended. After about 2M a year its all the same anyway.
I think having the leverage to keep his assistants well compensated is the correct answer.
