There's at least 2-3 morbidly obese softball players on every SEC team it seems. And it's been that way for as long as I can remember.

To be fair, some girls look very very athletic, but the 5'4" 285 lb blob in every lineup kind of makes me question if they're doing any conditioning at all during off days. All I know is, the baseball players I knew in college had to run their asses off, even the position players. They were also all in great shape. Softball not so much.

You've never watched baseball, have you?

Fat dudes have made the pros for decades.

Bartoli Colon and John Kruk are still made fun of today. That's like 2 fat guys in mlb over 30 years.

Basically every softball team has 9ne of these:

I agree with you but isn't that like asking if some of the OL and DL players in the NFL do any conditioning?

Wonder why? College baseball players can go pro. College softball players? No pro sport for softball.

Softball is a much smaller field than baseball, so less running around. It seems like the big ones are always first basemen and pitchers in both.

Softball base paths are only 60 feet vs 90 feet for baseball. Outfield max is 235 feet from home plate.. Speed and distance running is far less important.

Games are 7 innings with a mercy rule after 5. Endurance is less important.

Softball has a DP that can hit for someone and move around the field. I think most players do light conditioning during the week and some, like the UGA pic above, probably just crack open a six pack and a large pie every night like an intramural All Star.

I should add in my extremely limited experience of watching college softball, it is not a station to station game. The general strategy is to have 6-7 field mice that are nothing but slap hitters that reach on errors and infield singles, then 2-3 wide load boppers who blow the top off.

In general, you don't have to be athletic to play baseball or softball. It's the least athletic of all the major sports.

There are so many that are cute but the big ones stand out so much more. I swear, the P at TAMC is a giant. Poynter.

It just donned on me that you explained the exact strategy of the game and the shittiness was hidden in plain sight me entire life. I just always chalked up the dogshit play to my imagination, but it's actually like watching 11 year olds at Boys Club baseball... Becauese that's the exact same approach.

Damn. I'll never watch the occasional softball game airing in the background because I thought my team's baseball game was on the same again.

And Prince Fielder, and CC Sabathia, and David Ortiz, and David Wells....

There are a ton of fat people that play baseball.

Female sports should release the player's weights like male sports do.

Equality.

The reason for this is because these girls start in little league and that’s usually all they play. Most boys play a multitude of sports at a young age and are generally more active because of their nature. My sister played from T-ball with the boys all the way up to high school softball, but she was always active so she stayed healthy where a lot of her teammates trotted out their for softball practices and then sat at home on the couch the rest of the year. There’s a LOT of big girls.

It’s the only sport those big girls can play and get away with it too.
