I think we'll see less blocks, however, I think this team can be top 20 in steals. Similar to Oats' Buffalo teams

I think that's the hope. We had the best trio of shot blockers in the nation in our starting lineup last year which is what made us so dangerous defensively. Barring Pringle picking up the slack Bediako left behind and the lineups where Stevenson and Nelson man the forward spots next to him (as Oats pointed out today), we have next to no shot of having the same rim protection. Where I do believe we'll be better is defending at the POA. Based on what we're hearing, we should be better in that regard, and we will have to be if we want to have any shot at being as elite defensively as we were last year.

If Nelson is half as good as Oats has hyped him up as I don't think a guard missing a game here or there will hurt us much. From the sound of it he's one of the best ball handlers on the team.

I'm definitely not a pro scout or anything, but I'm a pretty big NBA Draft nerd. I had him in my top 30 in what was a very deep draft last year before he dropped out. I have no clue how NBA scouts looked at his skill-set, athletic ability, and length and told him they need to see something else from him.

Yeah I don't get it myself. He's been inconsistent as a shooter, but that's the biggest knock on him I've seen. 6'11" guys who can create for themselves are so rare that you'd think they'd overlook it though.

"SEC REGULAR SEASON TITLES DON'T MATTER!"

Yea sure they don't.

I'd rather finish first on the regular season than win the SEC tournament.

The only non 1st place/ tournament winning combo I'd next want would be a 2nd place regular season and a tournament title

Making a deep run will most likely happen when we least expect it. A team that’s like a 6 or 7 seed one year. Could be this year.

That’s the beauty in having a coach like Oats. Getting into the dance annually is what we all wanted. The more opportunities the more chances to break through. NCAA tourney is a crapshoot.

Eighteen years ago in 2005, Coleman Coliseum completed its last major renovation that included a modernized facade, expanded concourses, new seating and the current club area. However, as other programs in the SEC have built state-of-the-art facilities in recent years, the historic arena that opened as Memorial Coliseum is probably nearing its end as the home for @AlabamaMBB. The Crimson Tide christened Memorial Coliseum on Feb. 1, 1968, with an 86-65 victory over Samford. Whenever Coleman Coliseum hands the baton to its successor, it will pass along not only generational sports memories, but also its pop culture status as a venue that hosted the biggest names in music including Elvis Presley, Jimi Hendrix, The Rolling Stones, Elton John and Led Zeppelin. So since its last major renovation 18 years ago, Coleman Coliseum is here to remind you the 2023-24 basketball season tips off in 18 days.

Saw a crazy stat today. Only 9 players from the SEC have been with the same team for 4 years. With the transfer portal, I expect that number will be smaller in years to come.

They matter to those who win them - they matter to Alabama fans.

I think so. They pulled a Bill Self and bumped the NIL offer massively last minute.

Indiana won’t have enough time to contact boosters to match. Brilliant honestly

It might be the afterwork beers, but I have a really good feeling about this team. If they can protect the rim, or more likely, keep people from getting to the rim, I think it's going to be another great year.

That really is crazy.

And how do you remember what Coleman looked like years ago?

Have you been sitting in there stealing our signals?

All of these players may be back by the time the season starts but they've missed a lot of off-season conditioning that new players really need in order to consistently play at the intensity level that Oats expects. We might be in for a lot of players hitting the wall come late February or early march. First year players that tend to do that anyway.

Dioubate is the only one who is a freshman. The rest of the guys who are banged up right now are experienced college athletes so you'd expect their conditioning to be much better. My bigger concern with them is how it affects chemistry. There are a ton of new faces on this team and they need to play together as much as possible while the games don't count.

It's the one thing I comfortable about with going after elite recruits. We've got bags, but we're not a blue blood. With NIL, football comes first. And 1 player can make sure such a dramatic impact, that you'll see these last minute offers pop up.

A desperate blue blood with deep pockets can change things like never before. And I'm well aware with how dirty basketball recruiting has always been with AAU.

I think our sweet spot will end up being guys who are ranked around 25-50. Not a guarantee one and done and wants to improve their draft stock. Those guys of they're smart, will not necessarily take the largest offer, because they know how much money they can make if they're drafted high. If they already expect you be drafted high, a lot of them will go after the biggest bag.

Yeah we are losing Sunday if Sears is out. Will be a good thing tho. Lets us get a look at other guys handling the ball

I'm actually fine with Sears being out (except obviously him being out with an injury) because it will be valuable time to see who else is capable of running the offense and facing some pressure bringing the ball up.
