Alabama basketball's Mouhamed Dioubate underwent knee surgery, expected to make full recovery

Alabama basketball freshman Mouhamed Dioubate had arthroscopic surgery on his left knee and is expected to make a full recovery with plans to return for the 2023-24 season, Nate Oats told The Tuscaloosa News.

Dr. Lyle Cain performed the surgery. The injury was discovered during the physical process.

Dioubate is a 6-7, 215-pound power forward from Flushing, New York. He was a four-star prospect in the 2023 class, according to the 247Sports Composite.

The injury is not expected to limit Dioubate, but even if it did, Alabama has replenished its depth at power forward.

He's one of three forwards in the 2023 signing class for the Crimson Tide along with four-star Sam Walters and Jarin Stevenson, a five-star 2024 prospect who reclassified to the 2023 class. They each rank among the top 25 power forwards of the class.

Alabama also added Grant Nelson, the No. 3 prospect in the 247Sports transfer portal rankings. Nelson joins the Crimson Tide from NDSU.

Nelson is a 6-foot-11, 235-pound forward who tallied 19.9 points, 9.8 rebounds, 2.4 assists, 1.7 blocks and 1.1 steals a game this past season, all team-highs. Nelson scored a career-high 36 points on Jan. 27 against rival North Dakota. He had 11 games of 20 or more points and three games where he scored 30 or more.

It sounds almost like Mo played with something torn in his knee all season of his senior year because it stated that it was found during the physical I think???

Doesnt sound he had anything torn. Arthroscopic knee surgery is considered minor and usually takes about 6 weeks to recover from.

Our resident medical staff insider said torn meniscus a while back. They'll usually fix that with a scope, but the recovery timeline is usually more like a few months. Regardless, so much better than an ACL and he will get to play this season.

Our game against Clemson will probably be ESPN. UK/Miami will 100% be ESPN at 6:30 so I’m assuming we will follow them at 8:30

What's his deal? I see he's coached at a couple SEC schools. But that's about it.

Joseph Hastings of on3 did a good job reporting on Nelson today, Interviewed Nelson’s dad and his high school coach, interviewed Jamie Shaw on Nelson’s potential impact. I’d recommend subscribing it’s a dollar a month.

Here are a couple of quotes

From Nelsons HS coach

quote:

“He’s just so unique in his skill set for how big he is,” Gathman said. “You see him at 6-11 and the way he moves, it’s just nuts. People aren’t supposed to move like that when they’re that big… I think his No. 1 skill is just being able to drive and get to the rim. No five can guard him off the drive… for me, he’s like a slasher. A good wing slasher, but he’s 6-11.

quote:

“He will do whatever it takes to win,” Gathman told us. “He’ll be the guy diving on the floor… he’ll do whatever it takes. He’s going to dive on the floor, he’s going to box out, and he’s going to hustle back on defense.”

From his dad

quote:

“The staff is phenomenal,” Mr. Nelson said. “Everyone seemed comfortable around there with what they do… [Coach Oats], I just love his principals. His principals are rock solid. I love that he thinks of God. That’s worth a huge amount.”

Hate to be that guy but it makes you wonder if Q hopped in the portal earlier would Jaden Bradley have stayed? I guess at that time Quinerly declared for the draft with the opportunity to return to school so maybe Bradley was always leaving.

I always felt it would be one of the two who left between JQ and Bradley but it stings seeing both gone now. Voiced my concerns with Bradley’s fit in this system but I’d take him back in a heartbeat now.

Going to be an interesting game vs Arizona.

I just think Bradley needed a fresh start, he was never the same after the Miller stuff.

20 seconds into that trashy background music and I said, “nah.” It’s like some people celebrate being little more than an animal.

Do you have any advice on stain removal? I spilled some coffee on a white shirt and I just cannot get it to come clean. I mean I assume y'all serve refreshments at your meetings at least, so what do you do when you spill something on your robes?

I wonder if him and Toussaint are going to visit together. Oats is relentless.

Hopefully. That'd be two solid adds this late in the game. I saw 4 and 3 on Wague and figured he'd just be a warm body at the end of the bench, but he did that in 10mpg, so he was definitely the productive backup big we need.

One thing I really like about this upcoming roster is it's experience.

PG Estrada: Senior
SG Sears: Senior
SF Griffin: Sophomore
PF Nelson: Senior
C Pringle: Senior

6th man Wrightsell: Senior

If we get Toussaint, there's another Senior. I don't think youth was the only reason we only got to the Sweet 16. But it was definitely a contributing factor. Experience wins in March. And while we don't have chemistry going into the season, we've got a ton of experience this year.

Amen - and like other years where Oats saw something he thought was a flaw the prior year he has attacked this one with an absolute ruthless energy.

Remember the team that beat Alabama and went all the way to the final. San Diego State? They had experience on the team. They could shoot as well. Oats wanted that. He must have reached out to SDSU staff and picked their brain. Probably talked to UCONN too.

Tf he pulls them in... We have at least 5 or 6 different lineups Oat can use throughout the season. This is very valuable for a reason. Oats needs to be able to go big, small, run fast, slow the game down.
