That's UGA's problem if a school with no in state competition in the 3rd or 4th best talent producing state in the nation can land #1 classes but can't get top level receiver depth.
If only GA produced elite WR's like you incorrectly assert. Only OSU and Bama recruit enough badass Wr's to lose elite WR's, but still have the best WR's.

IMO Pickens is somewhere around a 3rd-4th round pick coming off an ACL tear.

The State of Georgia produced 6 4 star receivers this past season. They committed to: Notre Dame, Clemson, Indiana, Florida, Notre Dame, and Tennessee. Like I say, that's UGA's problem if a school with that recruiting base can't get good receivers.

At the level UGA thinks they are at, they should be able to adjust just like Bama had to after losing Waddle.
So which is it? UGA “thinking” they are as talented as Bama and aren’t or UGA is as talented and should be able to replace him.
So far the UGA responses have been pretty spot on IMHO.

Exactly my point. Not one 5 star, not one top 50 guy, not even one top 100 guy, not one guy that should be expected to be a year 1 badass, so thanks for helping prove my point.

UGA's entire program strategy under Smart has been to beat everyone in talent and depth and then be conservative in play style with that talent. In other words let the superior talent win titles while minimizing risk like Bama did a decade ago. This is now Smart's 6th year. So my point is that UGA can't blame one injury for wrecking the season when the entire program has been all about beating everyone with superior depth and talent. Team's built the way UGA is designed should be able to handle losing a starting receiver. And if they can't then they need to question if the system is working.

With UT and AU rebuilding and UF recruiting below elite status, UGA should almost perennially appear in the SEC title game with a playoff berth on the line. So anything worse than 11-1 or maybe 10-2 would be a wrecked season.

Well if UGA's WR roster is as thin and depleted as you say it is, then why on earth didn't UGA go harder after any of these 4 star in state receivers to build back up some depth?

I dont think anyone expects anything less than this even with this injury.

If by thin and depleted you mean below the "loaded" level the other poster described it as, then thats what we are: Not loaded at WR.
We signed some OOS 3 star players we considered to be better prospects. The state of GA simply doesnt produce the elite WR's you assumed it did.

GA produces plenty of WR talent. I already mentioned the 6 4 stars you didnt sign in 2021. In 2020 there were 7 and they went to UNC, AU, AU, Bama, UT, UGA, and USCe. Not to mention Arik Gilbert to LSU. 2019 had the top receiver in the nation and he went to OU.

You didnt mention a single elite Wr from GA that we coveted and didnt sign in 2021.

None were elite, but we signed 3 elite OOS talents in the 2020 class. 2 of the 3 have had serious injuries.

We signed Pickens in his place, which is a wash, and an elite GA WR in Dom Blaylock. Both have had serious injuries.

Not one of those is ELITE tho

A wash?
Pickens has been far superior in every measurable and I would take a healthy Blaylock over Haselwood arse well.Haz he even scored a TD at OU?
Hell,he couldn't even beat out a walk-on as a freshman.

Losing a player of the caliber is not easily replaced, but you analysis of UGA is spot on. Losing a Julio, Cooper or even Ridley would have been devastating to some of Alabama championship teams.
Gone are the days of having simply 1 elite receiver...Clemson OSU OU and Bama stack these players up there's no reason why UGA shouldn't have depth there.
