Also needs to be a small school that nobody's really heard of. So Syracuse this year, Loyola this year or Butler in 2011 wouldn't count as Cinderella's given their already successful history
I would still argue UCLA and Oregon State are Cinderellas as both barely made the tourney. Let us say if they make the Elite Eight or Final Four.
We all know ORU is gonna lose to Arkansas.

UCLA is a historical powerhouse who has been underachieving for a decade. I don't consider them a Cinderella at all.
I can buy into Oregon State.

However to me a Cinderella team is a team that comes from no where and their winning is unexpected.
Nobody in their right mind is gonna argue a 4 seed or lower is a Cinderella.

I see what you mean. I did consider it comical ESPN completely ignored UCLA when discussing that all the bluebloods were eliminated after Kansas lost.
Guess we'll see if they still bleed blue next weekend.

Gotta at least be a 7 seed or higher. Preferably from a mid-major conference. If it's a P-6 team it needs to be some non-traditional program like Oregon State who kinda came out of nowhere to win their conference tournament for the auto bid and just keeps on rolling in the big dance.

Bama may not be a Cinderella but she shore got some ugly stepsisters.

Bama is historically a top 3 SEC basketball program so no.
Usually it’s someone with a seed of 10 or higher and not a school with many NCAA tourney appearances

We were definitely a 'Cinderella' when we made our Final Four run in 2017.

We're a really good team - a Top 5/10 team according to human beings and computer metrics. There is nothing cinderella about a team that has performed at a Top 5/10 level for the entire season and then wins at a Top 5/10 level in the tournament.
Bear with them. Some folks only started watching UA basketball last night.

So if a miracle happens and Bama wins it all we wouldn't be considered a Cinderella team?
You could certainly say that 2020-2021 Alabama would be a Cinderella story if they win it all, given that they were not ranked at all in the AP pre-season poll and were ranked only 5th in the preseason SEC poll by the media.
But no, at this stage of the game, coming into the tournament, they aren't a Cinderella.

Agreed that ORU stands little to zero chance at all against Arkansas. In fact, that -11.5 spread is the one I want to put the most action on next weekend.
BUT, in the very off chance they do win, are they the biggest Cinderella of all time even if they don't make it to the final four?
No 15 seed has ever won 3 games in a single tournament.

Most definitely.
And it would cause Baylor to temporarily question their standing with the Lord.
I would take it as a sure sign of the apocalypse.

Im pretty sure Nate Oats never wants the Cinderella label. He wants to be expected to make the tourney, deep runs and Final Fours on a regular basis.

As per the fable, a Cinderella team is one who shows up to the ball without an invitation and makes a splash. One-bid conferences don't get invitations, they get an auto bid for winning the conference tournament. No one other than themselves wants them to be there. If such a team pulls of an upset or two in the NCAA tourney, they get the Cinderella label.
Oral Roberts is definitely a Cinderella. Loyola is in my mind since they knocked off a #1 seed early. ACU was briefly.
Alabama would have gotten an invitation even if they had lost in the conference tournament.

Syracuse and UCLA also fit the bill this year.
Negative in my opinion. No historically great or traditionally ranked program should ever be considered a cinderella. I'll give on Ore St even though they are P5, but no real BBall history.

Syracuse was a “Last 4 in” and 8th place in a crappy ACC so they’re definitely a Cinderella.

Oral is the only Cinderella team this year imo.
Loyola has been good and was underrated.
