Auburn football staff news: Russell out as S&C coach

quote:

AUBURN, Alabama - Ryan Russell, Auburn’s director of strength and conditioning, has been told there will not be a place for him on Harsin’s staff, Auburn Undercover has learned. The news was not delivered by first-year coach Bryan Harsin, but by Marci Girton, the athletic department’s chief operating officer.

I hope Harsin tries to get Aaron Feld

Also noted in that article is that all assistant coaches have cleaned out their offices despite no official word coming from Harsin on them yet.

I don’t mind that Harsin didn’t deliver the news to these people that he didn’t hire. Most corporations get HR to deliver these messages. Not sure how this is any different

Also mentions the only 2 that have a chance of being retained most likely are Caddy and T-Will

That’s the two I would also consider hanging onto, especially TWill.

I’d prefer caddy. I think him and Harsin would have a lot of respect for one another.

It’s time for t will to move to a d coordinator gig somewhere.

Strongly disagree. Harsin has no relationship with Russell (edit: at Auburn). It seems most appropriate to have the department manage that

Edit: Thanks, LCT

I don’t think TWill is ready for a DC job just yet. But I could see a school taking a shot on him.

Not entirely true. Russell was at Boise from 07-09.

Probably should have clarified my point: Harsin didn’t have a professional relationship with Russell at Auburn. Still appropriate, I think, to have the department manage the communication of the terminated staffers.

My opinion changes if Harsin picks and chooses who to use the department for But my assumption is that Greene is managing this process

Probably a safe assumption.

It makes perfect sense though for an admin in the AD to deliver the news than the head coach in this situation.

No need for the first or second meeting with the guy to be a "best of luck in your future endeavors" meeting. Just puts a bad taste in everyone's mouth.

I haven't been impressed with the S&C under Gus. Our OL do poorly on the bench at the combine. Our OL has also been pushed around for a while. Slow feet is one thing. Lack of strength is entirely different.

Definitely fair to question the results.

I don’t think he was an advantage with recruiting either.
