I played in Bowls that were considered meaningless by people now, but none of us thought they were meaningless. We didn’t have the intensity of SEC games, but they were football and going on the trips was a reward for a hard season. The $$ and swag were big deals too. In fact, when we were unlikely to win the SEC (this was before the championship game) , our goal was to win out to get in a better Bowl. People who never played are making assumptions based on their own bias and emotion. This is not even up for debate, so just stop already.

Safe to assume a bowl is meaningful for many players now and then, but if championships matter, a bowl for a 7-4 team is not quite as meaningful as a playoff game or a game with playoff implications.

I didn't play college football but I did play from the age of 8 until I graduated high school and all of the people I played with played because we enjoyed the game...most of us played sandlot football every chance we got just to play the game....most of the kids at UGA and any school ain't going to the NFL and most play simply because they enjoy the game and the brotherhood of being on a team....but its difficult from a fan's perspective to simply enjoy the game for it merely being a game...we are fanatics and winning is all that matters...even if that means winning only a couple of games a year when your team has no business doing so....

All of that being said I cant fault anyone with the potential of making it to the NFL opting out of a bowl...and, at the basic level, it opens opportunity for a player who wouldn't get as much PT to get more....but it sucks from a fanatics POV....

On this note though how delusional are college football players???? I was completely unaware of the number who seriously think they are going to the NFL until Last Chance U came out and almost ALL of those dudes seriously think they have a shot when most of them can't keep their shite together long enough to play at a P5/G5 program for 3 years. They may have the talent but making a living in the NFL is about a lot more than talent....
