Repeat after me:

Auburn football has no insiders and the shite I’m reading online is false.

There’s no way they are hiring Steele. You don’t replace a 55 yr old HC with one that’s approaching 70. All these writers are taking the Finebaum approach of shite stirring for clicks.

Stop making sense. I’ve been told here that Steele knifed Gus in the back.

This isn't true. Philip Marshall and guys like that are not "insiders", they are mouthpieces who sometimes get used to break news (rarely) and other times to spread misinformation.

There ARE however "insiders" who have actual information. Its not always consistent and some of that is misinformation as well, but I can tell you outright that I've heard in one way or another that Cristobal would be a major target (if not THE top target) for essentially a year now. Fast forward to today, Gus is out, and what's happening? We're waiting on Cristobal. He has absolutely been contacted and why do you think Oregon is rushing to try to extend him? What do you think that non-answer from him last night was? The PAC12 title game threw a wrench in things because he's a classy guy and I don't think he wants to do anything until that's done, but if he had no interest he'd have shot that down and/or signed his extension by now.

I can also tell you that the Gus being fired stuff was being talked about at least a week before it happened. Lots of talk about how the decision was made and the MSU game wouldn't matter. I was hinting at that for weeks on here while people kept repeating "blah blah buyout", "he's not getting fired", etc. What ended up happening? He got fired even after a win, which means that it was already decided that he was out. So again, "insiders" absolutely did know that this was in the pipeline.

Finally, I don't buy the Steele stuff. If anything thats the part of this entire story that's misdirection. I haven't heard anything about the "money guys" being enamored with him for years like its now being claimed by idiots like PM. There might be one guy who wants Steele as HC, but think about it - if there was a consensus (ie: multiple BOT members) he'd have been hired by now. Why haven't they announced it? With early signing day if you have your guy picked out it makes no sense to not just announce it. I'm not going to pretend like Steele would be an impossibility because this is Auburn after all, but I'd be mind-blown if the plan here was to eat Gus' buyout, then replace him with a guy who's about to turn 63 in a few months who would excite absolutely nobody.
