The people that have it, aren't just going to start giving it to the people that don't without getting it back from somewhere. Where do you think that's going to be?
If raising the minimum wage isn’t the answer, what is?

Just because a tiny percent of a population got out of poverty without minimum wage doesn’t mean that’s true for everyone in that population.

We can’t expect everyone to be a superhuman and grind and claw like a demon until they get what they want. Not all folks are wired like that. Evidence: you yourself admitted you barely passed high school because you liked weed. I believe in the dignity of work, and if someone is willing to get up in the morning to do an honest day’s work, they shouldn’t be punished for it.
After the fall of Saigon, the US accepted about 130,000 immigrants from Vietnam. Thousands more followed after that. Most were poor and didn't speak English. It took them 10 years to start kicking butt. Their story is well documented. Some of them now own parts of the shrimping industry in Louisiana and Alabama.
So how did these people who came to the US with nothing and didn't know the language rise out of poverty in such a short period of time?
They started on the SAME poverty level as the people you, baconwaffle, are talking about. Yet after only being in our country a short time they rose out of poverty. In 2017, only 11% of the Vietnamese population living in the US live below the poverty line. Add to that they have higher median incomes then groups who have had the advantage of being in the US for generations, whites included.
Vietnamese success
How did this happen? The way you ramble on you makes it sound like people born poor stay poor because of where they were born in life. You said "Just because a tiny percent of a population got out of poverty without minimum wage doesn’t mean that’s true for everyone in that population." That is 100% bullshat. A large percentage of the Vietnamese got out of poverty in a short period of time. And they did it through hard work. No raising the minimum wage was needed.

Cool link and very interesting.
I'm not sure it's an apples to apples comparison however. The Vietnamese at a minimum had a fresh start type vibe, I would guess. Where as the poor people who have been inside the country for generations start out with a, whatever we do we can't win vibe.
I do get your point and find it interesting however.

Some enterprising young sociologist should put together a study around vibes.

It's not.
The Vietnamese that came here had strong family units. They pooled their resources, lived together, didn't spend money on dumb things, made smart common sense decisions with the little money they had, until it became a lot of money for the family. The same could be said of many poor immigrants that have come here over the generations.
Guess which demo in the country does those things the least?
And guess which demo in the country it gets blamed on?

If an American politician wants to convince people to support bad policy or political action frame it around race.
Tried and true for 150 years.
