As a player, I'd be irritated that my football program is focusing on exploiting a PR stunt while I've dedicated my life to a school, football program, and a chance to get to the league.

Who wants to play for a clown show while the school gets millions in free PR?

Vanderbilt’s struggles aren’t about a kicker in one game. The team is frustrated—that part is understandable. But this kicker has gotten into the heads of a whole heckuva lot of people.

We are tired of the bullshite. Their was a time in my life where I could turn on the tv and watch a damn game. No politics, no self entitled woke bullshite, we fricking miss those days. Now it’s this publicity stunt and clay Travis on the other side with his garbage. I just want everyone to stop thinking they are so damn important and stfu and play ball.

Of course it was. Go back and watch her form and follow through. She kicked it exactly the way they wanted her to...which is even more absurd because it was an admission that it was literally all she was capable of doing. It would have been better if she had tried to kick deep and miss-hit it or only get it to the 25. People are pissed because Vandy made a mockery of the game.

I've seen players celebrate a TD that gets them within 21 with 5 minutes left. Should we tell those guys to STFU?

Ummm.....I’ve seen Tennessee players do it and I’ve absolutely said they should STFU

So many other things on which to focus—particularly during this Advent time of year.
She’s a girl in college, kicking a ball.
In the scheme of most people’s lives, it doesn’t rate a second (or first) thought.

Just my opinion,

I doesn’t get to me, it just makes me sad. So many people now dictate their lives on how they feel politically and it’s making things worse. Those people won’t listen when you make everything about race, and gender, and non-gender, all you do is divide. We are all people and the way somebody personally feels shouldn’t matter. Everybody thinks they are important though so whatever.

Fair enough.
For some reason, I’m just completely apathetic to this story.
Enjoy your evening.

this got outta hand hella fast. Vandy is a shite show. how can you let a newbie female kicker who has been there a week address the team and it's actual leaders at halftime? im surprised they didn't leave then

I’m gonna say part of the problem is that this shite never happened and when she went on a podcast bragging about it the players got pissed and the coaching staff shrugged

That said, if the subject of this thread is true (I haven’t read the thread), that’s kinda lame.

It's not lame at all. This (inept) girl being on the field is a clear message to the kids that have busted their asses all year to win just one, stinking football game that the administration and coaches aren't interested in winning so much as making a social/political statement. they're telling their players, "We don't give a shite about your hard work and dedication."

I don’t follow Vanderbilt football.
Was there another kid who beat her out for the job?

As for political statements—unfortunately all schools make ‘em.
It’s destroyed higher education and more.
I feel ya.

I said it was “lame” (probably not the right word), because I wouldn’t quit a scholarship sport because of a girl or anyone else kicking.
But I don’t walk in others’ shoes; this is just me worthlessly speculating on a message board.
Don’t mistake my opinions for me trying to tell anyone else how they should feel about it.

There wasn't a try out. Their backup punter was a kicker in high school as well as one of their backup DBs. They also had a 4 year high school starter from a good football school in Nashville who is a student at Vandy who contacted the team and volunteered to try out. They did not entertain any of those options. She was handed the job without ever kicking a football. And now they have named her the starter, again, with their regular starter, and backup, now available. It's hilarious and ridiculous. She didn't earn it, doesn't deserve it, and is taking spots away from players who have. That's wrong.

It’s bizarre how many people on this webpage are crying about this.

Vandy wasn’t winning that game. They tried something new and it sounds like they want to continue down that path. So what? That’s college football.

Some of you talk like the game is the exact same as it was in the 80s when that couldn’t be further from the truth.

Will the girl’s different kicking style work out in the sport and ,specifically, the league? I don’t know, but there’s nothing wrong with a winless team trying it out.

The style that can't make field goals over 15 yards and where the ball doesn't get higher than 5 feet off the ground? Yeah, I don't think that "style" is going to catch on
