Surprised you took that bait SoG

Not sure about Bear but I think its reasonable to assume that Nick could've comparable success at LSU as to what he's done at Bama if he wouldn't have wanted to scratch the NFL itch.

I think it's reasonable to assume that Alabama would have hired another coach at some point during those 40 years of Bryant/Saban that would have been very good and won a title or two as well.
Pandora's box is full of fun and adventure.

And if you removed their time at Alabama and left only their tenures at other schools neither coach is one of the 2 greatest coaches in CFB history.
If Les and Coach O can win 2 NC's at LSU I would like to think Bear and Nick would have won 20 if they would have coached at LSU 50 years combined.

It is an interesting argument. Although Saban took some shitball program to the top before y’all nabbed him...

Props to Saban for not trying it again though, I'm sure it had to be tempting at times with the personality he has.
Some guys just fit better in the pros or college, one reason I had no problem with Joe Brady bailing.

I don’t like to think about what would’ve happened if Saban had stayed at LSU all these years
It’s like thinking about that rich big tittied skinny chick that you let go and now is worth 8 figures.
Not that I would know

I feel confident Saban would have very similar success post-NFL at 5-6 programs (LSU and Georgia among them).

I do think that Saban improved quite a bit in his program management post-NFL. He might have figured out whatever it was anyway, but he definitely was better when he returned than when he left (and he was clearly pretty damn good when he left).

Many of my SEC friends predicted LSU would go back to the 90's when Saban left LSU.
Here we are 15 years later and the decline looks real this time.

He wasn’t great in 04. Hail Mary away from finishing 7-6 (I think)
Wait do the dolphins need a coach

If Alabama's 15 years post-Saban are as good as LSU's I'll be pretty damn happy.

Not many folks here remember the debacle that was hiring Les. His first recruiting class had 15 players and (at the time) was only salvaged by landing Perriloux

Hmmmm....
2000- Maybe our worst team ever, certainly most disappointing.
2004- Backup QB and LSU got away with a BLATANT pass interference in the endzone when Bama was about to go up 10.
2006- Mike Shula....LOL
2010- Finally a legit win.

That was in the earlier internet days when as a college kid I basically only knew a bunch of stuff about Auburn and Tennessee (because I hated them), so I wasn't around to see LSU reactions to hiring Les.
But, I gotta think hiring a Midwestern guy that went 28-21 at Oklahoma State and was coming off a 7-5 season was not exactly garnering high fives and fist pumps

Don’t worry, many people on this board and the Tiger Rant said we would never win a title with Ed O as our coach. Most of them are now saying “we’ll never win another title with Ed O”

There were people calling for his head after he lost to Tennessee his first year. That’s the year we were up 21-0 at half and they came back to beat us 27-30 in OT.

The 05 coaching search was my indoctrination to this very fine website. So many rumors that were much less easily dispelled than they are today

I thought it was 12. But yeah Perrilloux, iirc, flipped on signing day kind of out of nowhere. And, damn, after Les lost to Tennessee, it was bad
