BobLeeDagger,
MSU aren't world beaters either so there's no reason to bash Arkansas now is there?

Keayton Thompson’s, who I think will be successful in Bronco’s offense.
Brennan Armstrong will be the Virginia football team’s starting quarterback for the start of the 2020 season.
Head coach Bronco Mendenhall announced that the redshirt sophomore would be the team’s QB1 following Thursday morning’s practice.
Armstrong edged out Mississippi State graduate transfer Keytaon Thompson for the starting job.

Didn’t know that Still think he would shine. QB1 must be a good athlete. Keytaon had some stellar moments in his limited time in Maroon and White.

Moorehead not finding a way to use Thompson was the biggest reason I wanted him fired. As a college coach, your number 1 job is setting up your best athletes to succeed.

Weird that Schrader isn’t #2 - showed some potential last year including against LSU.
That pick by Stevens was just filthy and not really his fault.

I don't follow MSU football that much, but is there any chance Schrader can play another position? I know he was an ATH out of HS and he seems like a pretty tough dude.
Shrader is a qb all the way, and has talent. He's actually done very well in practice throwing the ball. There's some misinformation in this thread.

No one is perfect for Moorhead's offense. Shrader is Mullen's wet dream, however.

It's pretty clear that Shrader has not made much of an impression on Leach. During press conferences most of the time the only QBs that get named are Costello and Rogers.
Leach does not value athleticism and running ability in QBs. He wants quick reads, smart decision makers, and accurate throwers.

Leach has never coached in a league that emphasizes Defense. The press conferences should be fun lol.

Leach was the OC at Kentucky. The East was the dominant division in SEC football. His QB Tim Couch was the SEC Player of the year and a Heisman Finalist

And those Kentucky teams Leach coached went 5-6 and 7-5 with a Heisman Trophy finalist Welcome to the Air Raid!

I think it's possible Shrader is a good QB and still only the third best QB on campus for State. The Rogers hype is a real thing, Leach wanted him at WSU and then ended up with him anyway at State. He feels like someone in the future that can be your stereotypical Leach QB that isn't a big name nationally but throws for a ton of yards.
I like Shrader a lot and it's definitely possible he ends up being the starter long term for Leach. But it's way less of a forgone conclusion than you would've thought after last season. It's possible he is a better fit in a different kind of offense, but maybe he can make it work in the Air Raid, time will tell.
