Indeed. It's actually somewhere between 0.26-0.6%.

Yeah...I don't believe those numbers for a minute. Some medical examiner in Orlando tried and failed to get away with listing a motorcycle accident fatality as a Covid-19 death, simply because he died with the disease in his system.

Presidents should stick to academics; athletic decisions should be left up to ADs and coaches.

So do you not understand how mortality rates work?

Of course you don't because your narrative is the virus is just a global conspiracy to get Trump

You are referring to the CONFIRMED CASE FATALITY RATE, not the actual mortality rate of the virus

I would want USC & Oregon for a year.

I can read a Wikipedia article just as well as you can, bub. I do love it when we try to pretend to be more knowledgeable than we are though. It's so fun!

A global conspiracy? No. A national conspiracy? I have my suspicions.

I don't know that I have ever witnessed weaker leadership in my lifetime than what Emmert and the NCAA have shown in the last 4 months. The inaction has led to every conference and team fighting this alone with no centralized planning. The Big Ten unilaterally going conference only created a domino effect that destroyed any sense of a united effort to have a football season.
Now each conference is simply reacting to what other conferences do. Instead of uniting around a common set of rules (which is the whole point of having the NCAA) each university leader is just trying to make sure they aren't hung out to dry to look stupid by themselves. It's like when a cold front comes and one school superintendent in a metro area cancels school that day, the other superintendents all blindly follow like sheep out of fear they end up alone in any criticism.
If the NFL ends up having a successful season while CFB is cancelled, it will prove more than ever the need for a college football commissioner rather than the NCAA.

Power 5 AD just texted me: “It’s looking more and more like it’s Big Ten and Pac-12 vs. SEC, ACC and Big 12."
It's looking like this is the way the entire country is going... not just CFB. But yeah, I can imagine.
quote:
Rick Neuheisel on ESPN CFB XM saying his sources also told him behind closed doors there was talk about Ohio State, Michigan, Nebraska, Penn State quietly reaching out to the Big 12.
I don't believe this. Other than Nebraska, all of those others schools have Presidents that voted to cancel the season.

Just purely speculating here (and maybe wishful thinking), but what if some of those teams saw that vote as ultimately releasing them from their conference obligations, freeing them to pursue another avenue?
Posted on 8/10/20 at 10:17 am to paperwasp
Why would member teams vote to cancel then reach out to another conference to join so they can play?
Posted on 8/10/20 at 10:20 am to deltaland
Like the other guy said, maybe they saw the writing on the wall. They knew the votes were against them and Warren wanted to cancel, so they figured let’s just rip the band aid off and then try and find a way for us to have a season.
Idk just spitballing. Bc it does seem odd

It's been rumored for several weeks that Michigan is cool with not playing this year for "safety reasons".
Their president views Michigan as a research, not football school.

Dan Patrick reports Big Ten had internal vote & by 12-2 margin, league members opted on not having a fall football season. Nebraska & Iowa were only schools that voted to play this fall, @dpshow said. Patrick said Big Ten & Pac-12 would cancel fall seasons Tuesday
Is this literally Dem vs Republican states?

Not quite. Indiana is red, but they and Purdue suck at football. If the vote was on basketball season you would’ve seen both of them vote in favor of playing.

the financial windfall from added tv revenue for the SEC, ACC & Big 12 would be huge from ESPN/Disney which they have a billion dollar stake in this...
The eyes of all football fans around the country would be watching those games...
The recruiting advantage these conferences would have going forward would be huge...
The Big 12 could reach out to Nebraska and Iowa to give them their 10 to 11 games instead of looking for G5 schools to fill that void since they want to play...
The SEC would become the true Alpha Male of the P5 schools with the Big 10 tucking its tail and running...

It was also rumored over the weekend that Ohio State wanted to play, but these reports indicate that they voted against it.
Perhaps there is something more here, or maybe they just eventually caved?

The team wanted and still wants to play. I'm sure the AD is of a similar mind. However, this was the president of the university's decision.

What is the financial results for the college towns? I heard on a podcast someone say it would be catastrophic for Tuscaloosa. I can't imagine it being much better anywhere else.
